feels it's in his interest to do it, at this moment. i think that we are still in a position where unless he makes the decision that it is in his interest to do a deal, we are not likely to see one. it's true that over the course of the weekend, benjamin netanyahu made strong statements about how this is the deal that is favored, permanent cease-fire, because he's also addressing pressure from the right-wing coalition and two ministers said they would basically pull out if he went ahead with the deal with the terms on the table and he has tried to suggest that he is not simply going to cave. i think we have a couple kinds of vectors that don't necessarily favor producing a deal right now, but i would not entirely counted out because i think it's hard for benjamin netanyahu not to accept a deal if, in fact, they are prepared to go for one. >> so, on that note, the new

9:26 pm
i was part of. i don't know how close we are to something like that. that is one layer. the other layer is arab states, egypt, the united arab emirates, morocco, coming in on the ground, in effect, to represent the transitional administration and in a sense, manage gaza until you have a reformed authority take its place after some period of time. that looks like a very and deal outcome, because israel leaves, arab states take their place, and there will be a replacement overtime so we have an alternate to hamas. it looks like the pathway you'd like to see and the problem is two fold. israel, even not benjamin netanyahu, want to reserve the right to be able to go after pockets of hamas if they begin
9:27 pm
to reapproach. i'm not sure that arab states are going to accept being in a position where they would be in gaza and israel could come in and out of gaza so i think that is a question. the second is united arab emirates being prepared to play this role, but we need a bridge to a different future and that depends on reform to the palestinian authority and we are not at this point thing anything that demonstrates reform. >> we are out of time but i cannot have you here and not ask about this reporting which has confirmed that house speaker johnson and senate majority leader schumer will soon invite prime minister benjamin netanyahu to address a joint session of congress. what you think is behind this strategy? >> i understood when he spoke in 2015, with the aim was and the purpose was. i would guess

mike pennel is back with me -- my panel is back with me. we've been having a conversation that, senator bernie sanders started by saying that what's happening with the pro-palestinian demonstrations and encampments could lead to president biden vietnam. listen to him and the response from the biden campaign. >> i am thinking back and for people making this reference, that this may be biden's vietnam . lyndon johnson, in many respects, was a very good
9:53 pm
president, domestically, he offered major pieces of legislation and chose not to run a '68 because of opposition to his views on vietnam. >> comparing it to vietnam is an over exaggeration. this is a different circumstance and i think that people who actually lived through that difficult time would say that this is not comparable but that's not to say that this is not a serious matter. >> is this comparable? does senator sanders have a point or is he exaggerating? >> we better listen to the young people of this country. i worked very hard getting rid of apartheid in south africa and i can recall when they organized on campuses and they have to move that issue. we cannot ignore them and we cannot ignore bernie sanders. one thing we can say about him is that he has been true to his positions, we have understood very well what it means to pay
9:54 pm
attention to the young people and he is not afraid to speak up, so let's not dismiss what he said. >> what do you think? >> the historical parallel is not apt point in vietnam there was a national draft and we lost 50,000 lives in vietnam. american soldiers fighting on the ground, there is no such parallel with that in the israel-hamas war right now, and i think that it does a disservice to the people who oppose vietnam in the '60s and those who sacrificed their lives to compare something that is a foreign power fighting a terrorist group that american troops are not involved in in the actual conflict but i think it's over exaggerated. >> in a couple minutes we have left, i want to bring up a polling statistic, you know how i feel about it, this is from abc. if you take a look, right there,
9:55 pm
joe biden, among likely voters, 49%, donald trump, 45%, this is within the margin of error, but that is a four point lead for donald trump, sorry, for president biden, and joe biden won by 4.5 percentage points, so what do you make of this? >> is going back and forth, all year, but has always been close and i think we are several months out and that shows you how close this will be. yes, it's fun and interesting to talk about but we need to talk about pennsylvania, michigan, this will come down to a handful of states. >> in a minute we have left, i would add that we need to be looking at pulling out of florida, north carolina, and i have not written off georgia even though there is no marquee
9:56 pm
race, thinking about the nominee for governor. what do you make of that latest poll? >> i believe that that is of likely voters and when you go to likely voters, that biden is ahead even if it's only by a small margin and i think that in the final analysis, with all the polling, that likely voters being pulled is where the win will be. i believe that. >> we are getting out on time, early, congresswoman waters, rick wilson, seema mehta, thank you for joining us for "the sunday show". we will be back with more of "the sunday show", right after this.
