really most of us are looking at crystal clear skies temperatures right back to where they were yesterday morning for a lot of us. it's actually a little bit more mild than yesterday morning. take a look at some of those low 60's in a few spots like brentwood, alameda napa and fairfield berkeley. you're sitting at 57 right now. so not all that chilly for a lot of spots. now this afternoon, we are going to be seeing daytime highs in some cases around 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. some upper 70's to low 80's today. very pleasant. feel for a lot of us along the bay shore and coast well inland. i dare to say starting to get a little hot, i'll be talking more about even warmer temperatures. still to come in your forecast, roadways right now are doing fine. it is still early. of course, as you know. and that means no metering lights just yet. and typically no backups, you just yet either. we'll keep an eye on. if anything does pop up. but hey, at the moment, you are doing fine. if you are an early riser. all right, john, thank you for that. let's head to the south bay as one man is

back siegel capital has been a problematic spot for traffic death in san jose. this traffic death, the san jose's 17th for the year and that's outpacing the city's rate of murder. >> the city isn't meeting its goals and i think we need to look at it with a fresh set of eyes. >> siegel says despite work done to fix some of san jose's wide roads, the city is not prioritizing issue. what that was created, he says by design, but they had the ability to break the law. they they funneled to the intersection, really made it easy for them to. >> to come there until someone the mayor's office sent us a statement that blames reckless and distracted driving, quote. >> moments like this are tragic reminder that speeding, they say the minute but slowing down literally saves lives. and for siegel with this being the 3rd traffic death in just 2 weeks. >> more action is needed now more than we as a community make need to make it clear to city hall where our priorities are. >> and it's for safety above

saving. a couple minutes on our drive. >> now the driver of that truck was booked into santa clara county jail on several different charges. meantime, the identity of that cyclist who was killed here in san jose, their identity is still being withheld by police until they can notify their family. for now, we're here in san jose jack molmud kron. 4 news. >> well, police are now investigating a fatal crash yesterday in san jose. chp responded to a call around 8.30 this on highway 101 right near trumbull wrote according to caltrans traffic law, the crash involved a fatality, chp. they had to close both on and off ramps and trimble road. that investigation is still ongoing. let's head to the north bay because a month-long pilot program is now underway in the city of vallejo. so in a vast street between ahmed or impair streets in the lay home, we're going to be closed to through traffic on school days. the roads be closed from 9 o'clock in the morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. the closure is all in response to several shootings, the frequent

talk to students and faculty. now we're at that protest. >> cal berkeley students held an emergency rally in support of palestinians in rafah. they remain camping on campus. they say they'll continue to do so as well as hold these rallies until there's a students and community members packed in this prop was a at u c berkeley for a pro-palestine rally tuesday. protesters say they want to spread awareness about what they say is happening to palestinians as the israel-hamas war continues. he wants as they israel is bombing civilians in rafah and is closing out of the border with egypt. they're not letting humanitarian aid. and so as the situation gets more imperative, it is more of the collective duty upon all of 2 people and raising our voice is louder and louder and louder. we are living this

historic moment and students are stepping in to that moment. and as i'm here with students have been camping in the plaza for the last couple of weeks making demands of their university. we are here because of the universe of california has over 500 million dollars invested in blackrock, which invest in companies such as lockheed martin, which produced weapons that are being used on civilians in gaza during the rally, the encampment expanded with more tents going up. >> during finals week, expansion of the can is escalation in response to what's happening in finals. i'm graduating this semester. >> but none of that matters you know, people halfway across the world are, you know, are being killed just indiscriminately campus. police have been patrolling. but it seems as long as the encampment in the protests remained peaceful, they can continue to camp here much different from what we've seen at other universities. i'm sarah stinson reporting in berkeley. back to you.

>> well, in a statement pg and e says it does not support the idea of a statewide public utility because this type of ownership framework would not benefit customers. taxpayers, local communities or california's economy. happening now, police in oakland releasing a sketch of a man they say as one of 4 homicide. this happened back on august. 30th the last year. police say it happened around midnight on east 18th avenue. they say 2 people were shot. police say one named damani williams died at the scene. well, the other victim was taken to the hospital. we don't have any word on the severity of their injuries. police also releasing this picture of a ford f one, 50 pickup truck. investigators say his truck belongs to the suspects. well, governor gavin newsom's administration the route they got new numbers showing just how much fentanyl the state actually sees so far this year, california national guard has been assisting cities in the fight against fentanyl. the governor's office says since the start of

the year, almost 3 and a half million fentanyl pills were confiscated. that's about 7100 pounds of fentanyl off the streets. the national guard has been building partnerships with law enforcement agencies up and down the state. >> we're not only making the state safer, but we're reducing the amount of capital that goes back into the hands of transnational criminal organizations. these folks are are making money. a lot of money on the backs of of kids in our state that are dying every day from fentanyl. >> william major general matthew beevers saying the state invested 30 million dollars all to expand the national guard to work in the state and increase the number of cal guard soldiers at the u.s. mexico border to help keep drugs out here is as mission is not to keep fence off the street. it's also a partner with schools. just last week, governor newsom's office announcing government run pharmaceutical program. they want to purchase overdose-reversing narcan at a

still do have a gale warning through 09:00am this morning for some of our coastal spots. temperatures today are going to be warmer. mid 70's for downtown san francisco. even a couple of low 70's all the way out to the coastline. 70's to 80's for the rest of the bay area today. today is the seeing those 80's really back in place. widespread and it is going to stay this way for most of the bay area through the rest of the forecast. fremont's in castro valley all the way up to 80 degrees. concord, 81 today, the in benicia upper 70's. well, santa rosa at 82 degrees. looking ahead tomorrow, temperatures will be upper 80's for inland areas. and by friday, we could see a 90 degree or 2. same for saturday. after that, we do see temps settling down just a little bit with some low 80's that are warm us by sunday and monday. but all of this is under consistently sunny and dry skies. as for your roads right now, we've been talking about early it is see. don't

u.s. company or have it banned. catherine heenan has that story. >> we're in some very unusual territory. the u.s. government has passed a law that effectively gives it the right to take away one of the most popular social media. apps in the world in arguing against the new law. tiktok says its app is an important avenue for expression. >> pointing out that more than 170 million people in the u.s. use. it roughly half the country. it says that by taking away the government is infringing on our first amendment rights. meantime, is there really a significant security threat posed by tiktok? >> what i think is interesting here is that the for the last few years now the government keeps saying there is a national security concern with tiktok and we've heard of this now under republican and democratic presidents and in both cases, we have not gotten

the details, right? the government has not made its case to the american public about why this hugely popular app should be banned. it just teams, gesturing and national security. and i think that's part of why this case is going to be so fascinating. >> there were renewed calls to ban tiktok after the october 7th hamas attack. some users saying more anti-semitic content was showing up. others argue the new law is an attempt to suppress pro palestine voices. in any case, the fallout from a trial could reach far beyond tiktok. one of the things that tiktok makes the case about in its. >> filing against the government. is that a number of other social media companies and apps in general would need to be banned under these rules that the government has set out effectively it saying that if you're going to treat us all fairly, which, you know, the

the east bay, a new driver was public. transportation system is in the works for contra costa county. >> so they're called clyde cars. officials say they're going to help reduce traffic and increase public transit. accessibility, pittsburg, antioch, oakley, and brentwood. >> congestion is a real climate change is also a real thing. and so what we can get people out of their cars take the environment, ensure that like everybody's needs. you know, we're going see addition to ensure that that happens. >> like ours are expected to be in service by 2030. richmond nonprofit pogo park has won a state grant to build a new recreation center. that's also going to double as emergency shelter. the 10 million dollar grant program will construct contra costa county's first recreation center at harbor. a part destruction is already underway for the harbor hole as expected to be completed by the end of the year, 10 million dollar project will

could be in jeopardy at some bay area. campuses. >> because of security concerns surrounding ongoing protests. so this is especially true for upcoming uc berkeley graduate who are set to graduate this weekend covers will tran live uc berkeley with that story. so we'll we'll be learning. >> well, as far as uc berkeley is concerned, graduation ceremonies just a few days away and they will go on as scheduled. of course, they know what's going on on campus. you can see the tents right behind me. the protesters have been here for weeks and it looks like the encampment has gotten bigger. i was here just a couple of days ago and they have pretty much taken over the entire lawn on this sproul plaza. and it wraps around the corner. so here's what you need to know. the graduation ceremonies are still scheduled for saturday family and friends are coming in to berkeley to help the graduate. the graduation celebrate their very special

day, which will happen at the football stadium on campus. what's going to happen is they will have football rules. same deal. you will go through a metal detector of you will not be allowed to bring in banners. you can't do that. they will make sure that it's going to be football related like a game. but you never know what might happen during a ceremony. uc berkeley did not say specifically what they plan to do to make sure the graduates and their families have a very special day without graduate. without any disruption, i should say. but they did say they are very experienced with this dating back to protests to the 60's. so this is, >> as they say, not their first rodeo as far as the protesters reyna, they did not say that they plan to disrupt graduation, but they also did not say that they would not disrupt graduation and that looming threat has campus

security as well as police officers on high alert. i know columbia in new york city. they've already canceled graduation. but as far as uc berkeley and all the other uc schools, all systems go for this saturday, at least at u c berkeley. back to you. >> all right. well, thank you for that breakdown. there. >> where millions of muslims around the world not only for not >> okay. meantime, an investigation is reportedly under way after this incident. so last month, a dinner for graduating uc berkeley law students got heated. pro-palestine protesters stood up to read speech about a ramadan and the war in gaza. now the dinner was being held at the home of professors. video shows one of them taking the microphone away from the student telling her to leave the home. according to nbc news, uc berkeley is launching a civil rights investigation

into allegations of harassment by the protester. the u.s. department of education. they're now investigating reports of anti-semitism in the berkeley unified school district. the department office for civil rights is investigating a complaint of severe and persistent bullying rosman of jewish students. federal officials say the harassment has reportedly been happening since hamas attack israel in october of last year, the district superintendent was called to testify today before members of congress anti-defamation lee was one of the groups that filed a federal complaint back in february. this is going to be the first hearing on anti-semitism k through 12 school. congress previously held hearings on reports of anti-semitism, college campuses across our country. 2 people including teenage girl are in the hospital after they were struck an alleged hit and run driver in san francisco. the suspect was eventually arrested after police say they chased him and the 10 to all

the way to north beach before coming to a stop right outside of prof or studio along the embarcadero. well, first, dan kerman has that story. it's here along the embarcadero at green street where san francisco police took the hit and run suspect into custody. this after at least the 3rd incident of the day when the white mustang he was driving slammed into this parked car. >> no one was injured at this location, but that's not the case at the other locations here. chase >> and i'm like police say. it all began just before 08:00am the suspect's vehicle hit a pedestrian near jones and market tire tracks are clearly visible. the victim, an urban alchemy employee, was taken to a local hospital and will survive. police say a few blocks away. officers spotted the suspect's vehicle driving recklessly when the suspect failed. the yield when officers initiated a traffic stop. police say a vehicle

pursuit began about 9.30. the chase reached francisco middle school. it's their police say the suspect's vehicle hit a 14 year-old girl who was crossing campus to the auxiliary campus so that there was crossing the street from building to building and was in the crosswalk. >> and the guy was running out of, you know, running. because the police often. so put the good here. if they're going come supervisor. aaron peskin who represents that neighborhood says the girl was taken to san francisco general hospital with a fractured shoulder and ankle. but will survive. it's at that point. police say they shut down the chase to to safety concerns. >> minutes later, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle stopped in embarcadero in green. it's their they took the suspect into custody. francisco police are allowed to conduct vehicle pursuits under certain circumstances with these chase protocols followed in this case,

supervisor peskin says both he and the police are evaluating that right now. >> in san francisco, dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> while employees at an east bay, mcdonald'a workers are on strike top of the health department forced to close because of rat. so they are asking for the owners to hire professionals to clean up after the rat. they say they resume working once their demands are met. donald says during the shutdown people were scheduled to work are going to be paid workers. we spoke with say that's news to them. latino teachers and community members of oak grove unified school district plan to picket today. just ahead of the school board meeting. the goal is to reinstate the bilingual liaison and commit to language justice in policy in daily practice. community leaders say that the removal of the liaison back in march

has really her parents try to voice their concerns and recommendations that directly affect their kids. rallies have to take place today at oak grove union school district just after 4.30. all of the south bay police busy over single de mayo weekend. arresting almost 90 people in san jose. the police department says officers arrested 17 felony arrest 18 water rest and 52 arrests for misdemeanors. say most of the crimes committed involved, fistfights, dui, sideshows and reckless behavior. >> we had a significant amount of sideshow activity popping up all over the city in which we had to try and utilize resources and take away from the celebrations trying comeback. officers were getting bottles thrown at their vehicles we had officers had been assaulted people driving drunk. we had one vehicle crashed into a patrol was doing a diversion and injure officer. >> police say 2 people were also stabbed over the weekend. one is still in critical condition. police say despite the chaos that unfolded this
