students gathered at sproul plaza at u c berkeley late today calling for an end to the war in the middle east. >> this large demonstration came as israeli troops seize the palestinian side of the rafah border crossing a vital entryway for humanitarian aid. good evening. thanks for being with us tonight on kron 4 news at 11, i'm grant lotus. this happened as the u.s. pause the shipment of weapons to israel. kron 4 sarah stinson spoke with students and faculty at cal and has this report. >> cal berkeley students held an emergency rally in support of palestinians in rafah. they remain camping on campus. they say they'll continue to do so as well as hold these rallies until there's a students and community members packed in this prop was a at u c

berkeley for a pro-palestine rally tuesday. protesters say they want to spread awareness about what they say is happening to palestinians as the israel-hamas war continues. he wants as they israel was bombing civilians and rhonda and is closing out of the border with egypt. they're not letting humanitarian aid. and so as the situation gets more imperative, it is more of the collective duty upon all of 2 people and raising our voice is louder and louder and louder. we are living this historic moment and students are stepping in to that moment. and as i'm here with students have been camping in the plaza for the last couple of weeks making demands of their university. we are here because of the universe of california has over 500 million dollars invested in blackrock, which invest in companies such as lockheed martin, which produced weapons that are being used on civilians in gaza during the rally, the encampment expanded with more tents going up.

to use nearly 6 million dollars to buy and install. 47 premade homes for farm workers and their families. 19 of these families were left without homes after the half moon bay mass shooting last january 7 farmworkers were killed in the shooting after it was revealed. how the mushroom farmers lift an empty container boxes. no running water, no bathrooms, no insulation, know kitchens since the shooting, san mateo county leaders have been focusing on proper housing for farmworkers. new at 11 marin county firefighters made a helicopter rescue last night near ala mirror falls. they stranded due to rising tide n stitt sunset. they found them on a tiny ledge. >> no injuries were reported. >> also in the north bay, a month-long pilot program is underway and allay nebraska street between door and pierce streets in toledo will be

will be just a patch or 2 right along the immediate coastline. otherwise some clear skies and you can see why more of that northerly component, the wind and that is kicking away any chance that fog forming outside high pressure trying to build into that ridge is going to build a strongly overnight tonight and as it does, we're going to start to see that change in the wind pattern. that means the winds switched directions from the normally to a northeasterly wind. that's that offshore flow that will warm things up. so watch out for some strong winds. in fact, the wind advisory go into effect through tomorrow as we will see some gusty winds. 35 to 45 miles per hour. all right. thanks, lawrence. the alameda county sheriff's office is remembering one of their own tonight after she was killed in a crash. >> over the weekend in san leandro. >> she was described as the best of us. and now the best of us is antoinette feet out. an emergency dispatcher was on her way to work sunday night. >> when she was hit at the intersection of east 14th street at 100 50th avenue.

authorities say a drunk driver hit her and caused her car to roll over. she was just 3 blocks away from where she worked. >> the day that she was tragically taken from us. she had work her shift and had left at 07:00pm and our dispatch center needed additional help and she agreed to come back. so she was on her way back to work ever a moment to help people understand help devastating drinking and driving can be. this is an example. unlike the daughter, a sister. >> so very sad. the driver who hit feet now was arrested and is now behind bars. leaves behind a young daughter and a loving family. her memorial is being planned. one man is dead. another is in jail tonight after a driver ran a red light in south san jose crashing into a cyclist. the person on the bike marks the 17th traffic death of the year

goals. and i think we need to look at it with a fresh set of eyes. >> siegel says despite work done to fix some of san jose's wide roads, the city is not prioritizing issue. what that was created, he says by design, but they had the ability to break the law. they they were funneled to the intersection, really made it easy for them to. >> to come there until the mayor's office sent us a statement that blames reckless and distracted driving, quote. >> moments like this are tragic reminder that speeding may save a minute but slowing down literally saves lives. and for siegel with this being the 3rd traffic death in just 2 weeks. >> more action is needed now more than we as a community make need to make it clear to city hall where our priorities are. >> and it's for safety above saving. a couple minutes on our drive. >> now the driver of that truck was booked into santa clara county jail on several different charges. meantime, the identity about cyclist who was killed here in san jose,

their identity is still being withheld by police until they can notify their family. for now, we're here in san jose jack molmud kron. 4 news. >> well, this beautiful stretch of roadway may be a thing of the past. yeah. the great highway in san francisco. that stretch of it might be turning into a parking closing vehicles, the proposals part of the city's long-term plan to deal with climate change erosion has eaten away at this area of coastline. the beach and the bluffs, especially between slowed and skyline boulevard have been compromised. there's always sand blowing on the roadway. and instead, if they were to close it off, they put a network of trails possible staircase leading to the beach. there would also be an access road for emergency vehicles. the plan still needs approval from the board of supervisors. still to come, andy spade mcdonald's shut down. why workers say it's not their responsibility to clean up after the rats. >> plus, a high speed chase

>> 2 people including a teenage girl are in the hospital tonight after being struck by an alleged hit and run driver in san francisco. the suspect was eventually arrested after police say they chased him from the tenderloin to north beach before it came to a stop right outside the cross for studios along the embarcadero here. kron four's dan kerman reports. it's here

along the embarcadero at green street where san francisco police took the hit and run suspect into custody. this after at least the 3rd incident of the day when the white mustang he was driving slammed into this parked car. no one was injured at this location, but that's not the case that the other locations here chase >> and i'm like police say. it all began just before 08:00am the suspect's vehicle hit a pedestrian near jones and market tire tracks are clearly visible. the victim, an urban alchemy employee, was taken to a local hospital and will survive. police say a few blocks away. officers spotted the suspect's vehicle driving recklessly when the suspect failed. the yield when officers initiated a traffic stop. police say a vehicle pursuit began about 9.30. the chase reached francisco middle school. it's there. police say the suspects vehicle hit a 14 year-old girl who was crossing

francisco street from the main campus to the auxiliary campus so that there was crossing the street from building to building and was in the crosswalk. >> and the guy was running out of, you know, running. because the police they went after so put the good here. have the good he can run supervisor. aaron peskin who represents that neighborhood says the girl was taken to san francisco general hospital with a fractured shoulder and ankle. but will survive. it's at that point. police say they shut down the chase to to safety concerns. >> minutes later, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle stopped in embarcadero in green. it's there. they took the suspect into custody. the san francisco police are allowed to conduct vehicle pursuits under certain circumstances with these chase protocols followed in this case, supervisor peskin says both he and the police are evaluating that right now. >> in san francisco, dan kerman kron, 4 news.

>> i said in east bay macdonald's are on strike after the health department forced the restaurant to close because of rats. the employees are asking for the owners to hire professionals to clean up after the rats. they say they'll resume working, wants their demands have been met. mcdonald's executives say during this shutdown that the health department instituted people who are scheduled to work will be paid the workers. told them that. they said that's news to that. so we shall see. that's a story. we'll stay on. no doubt. as we take a live look outside. this the bucky ball across the street from the kron. 4 studios there by the exploratory martz says back with us now in lawrence. this forecast is summer-like. yeah, it's going to be really nice. maybe aloha for some folks are not used to these warmer temperatures. we're going to see. >> the warmest temperatures of the year. so far we're going

to see numbers. 80's, probably even a couple low 90's, a real possibility in the coming days. so tonight skies stay mostly clear. the one thing we're watching are the winds are going to be some gusty winds developing in the north of the east bay. so if you drive high-profile vehicle, a truck watch out for that, you might get with the times and some of the bridges that offshore flow. i think late wednesday into thursday morning. but right now looking toward the golden gate bridge, what you don't see is fog out there. and that's a sign of some nice weather to come. kind all over the map, though, with some temperatures your to chilly. 47 degrees in pacific. a jump in the san francisco. 55. then you look at the 62 in pittsburgh and that's what you can see. so these offshore wind event, you these temperatures kind of varying quite a bit. but overall, the pattern kind of settling in now to more of a summer like pattern outside as high pressure. going to build overhead that jet stream moving well to the north that keeps nice and dry out there. and that's the way is going to stay. here's forecast model you'll see here starting to see overnight tonight that offshore wind. that means we're going to kick away to low clouds and fog, sunny skies even along the coastline

and really a beautiful start your day. and that's what is going up to lots of sunshine in the afternoon. some warm temperatures just about everywhere you go. numbers breaking down like this. and the san francisco looking about 69 golden gate park. 64 in the sunset. 75 in daly city tomorrow should be a beautiful day there. warm too 60's along the immediate coastline to get inside, to be able teach up just a bit. 74 millbrae. 75 degrees in burlingame and warming up from their 70's and 80's further south. as you head towards san mateo tomorrow, plenty of sunshine and 79 degrees. sunny all day long. the south bay, a mixture of some upper 70's and some low 80's by tomorrow afternoon. probably some mid-eighties. i think the warmest valleys. you get to the tri valley about 84 in pleasanton. 83 in dublin, 81 in union city and sunny and bright ad. i'm wrong. 81 in danville about 81 in concord. nice weather everywhere you go around the bay area tomorrow. but but on the windy side in spots, especially in the early morning hours and again, ramping up late tomorrow night into thursday morning. next couple days, those temperatures soaring. how about some numbers may be some

70's along the coastline as we get into thursday friday. the other beach weather. but this weekend, things change can see that fog make return cooling down the coastline. still plenty of 80's elsewhere in the valleys that a feel-good inland, though, i think act from 90 after those toasty temperatures. yeah. you finally feel that nice heat relief. all right. thanks. the nation's largest showcase of asian american films returns to san francisco thursday night. >> opening night of the center for asian american media's 42nd annual cannes fest. we'll be at the palace of fine arts. the 10 day event kicks off with screenings of admissions granted and then there's an opening night gala at the asian art museum cam fest showcases music, food and interactive workshops through may 19th. plus, if you want to support local asian artists, you can head to the ferry building sunday. there will be the regular vendors. plus pop ups for mother's day. that includes fog cats and the on to japanese american artists
