all out for rafah protests. this comes as israeli troops have seized the palestinian side of the rafah border crossing, which is a vital entryway for humanitarian aid. kron 4 sarah stinson joins us now live from uc berkeley with the latest on the ongoing demonstrations there. sara. >> live here at sproul plaza uc berkeley. that is where this protest and rally has been going on for the last. our there's been many different speakers here. you can see all the various signs as well. this is the area that students have been camping out for weeks now. this encampment, a pro-palestine protest. they said they've been protesting. they've been doing walks, marches, writing letters for 7 months of this war and they will not stop until there is a cease-fire. as you said, the anchors there, there all the signs about people saying all eyes

on rafah because many are saying here at this protest there's only 3 days left for food in some of those minute tearing needs. so they're very worried about those involved. fun is they're not going to stop until again. there's a cease-fire look right now. you can it's a packed this entire plaza. we've seen this here with boots on the ground weeks now. and you can see that they have signs on the buildings here. there's several faculty members as well here in support of students protesting in support of palestinians as well. many here saying they want institutions like uc berkeley, the state of california and united states to stop funding the war and stop funding israel. now we are going to continue to talk to some of the people here were protesting, especially when some of the speakers wrapped up. we're going to chat with them and will continue to cover this all night long. for now, i'm sara stinson reporting live in

berkeley i thank yous area so live at the historic sproul plaza. >> ok, back to thanks. >> a similar all eyes on rafah protest is scheduled for 6 o'clock tonight at stanford's white plaza students. there are also calling on israel to stay out of the rafah border crossing israel says it told more than 100,000 people living in eastern rafah to evacuate ahead of air strikes overnight. that reportedly killed 27 people. hamas has agreed to a cease-fire deal brokered by egypt and qatar. israel said the proposal does not meet its core demands. however, israel has agreed to engage in more cease-fire talks. >> the san francisco bay area office of the council on american islamic relations is praising uc berkeley for launching a human rights investigation into allegations of harassment and discrimination against a muslim student by a law professor last month, a dinner for graduating uc berkeley law students got pretty heated when a pro-palestine protesters showed up to read

the speech about to ramadan in the war in gaza. the dinner was held at the home of berkeley professors or when men minsky and catherine fisk. the video shows fisk physically trying to remove the protester from the property there. the protester was asked to leave but did not do so. at francisco state university president lynn mahoney held an open negotiation session with demonstrators yesterday. students are demanding university disclose financial ties of the college may have with israel divest immediately is what they're asking. mahoney says that the school may consider avoiding investments based on the mechanics of war just as it takes into account climate impacts and racial justice. 2 people including a teenage girl are hospitalized tonight after a driver hit them and then took off the suspect who was eventually arrested.

>> was chased by police from the tenderloin to north beach before he came to a stop right outside the kron. 4 studios along the embarcadero today. kron four's dan kerman joins us now live with details. dan, this was quite an ordeal. >> yeah, definitely wanted dead. want to be in the path of this person. again, it came to rest right here just across the street for the exploratorium along the embarcadero. but not before 2 people were injured. >> you're an chase and i'm like it's here along the embarcadero with green street where san francisco police took the hit and run suspect into custody. >> this after at least the 3rd incident of the day when the white he was driving slammed into this parked car. no one was injured at this location, but that's not the case at the other locations. police say it all began just before 08:00am

kron. 4 news has confirmed an employee with urban alchemy was hit while walking near the intersection of jones and market tire marks are clearly visible in the intersection. the victim was taken to a local hospital and will survive. police say a few blocks away. officers spotted the suspect's vehicle driving recklessly when the suspect failed to yield. but officers initiated a traffic stop. police say a vehicle pursuit began about 9.30. the chase reached francisco middle school supervisor. aaron peskin tells kron 4 it's there. the suspect clipped a 14 year-old girl who was crossing francisco street from the main campus to the auxiliary campus. so the girl was crossing the street from building to building and was in the crosswalk. >> and the guy was running out of, you know, running. because the police often. so put the good here. if they're going come running girl was taken to san francisco general hospital. >> with a fractured shoulder and ankle but will survive.

it's at that point. police say they shut down the chase due to the safety risk. minutes later, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle stopped and embarcadero and green. it's there. they took the suspect into custody. again at this point to san francisco police not releasing the name of the suspect. of course, this brings up the question. >> a vehicle pursuits by police in certain circumstances. san francisco police are allowed to conduct vehicle pursuits. the question is, did they follow those protocols in this chase that led to a 14 year-old girl outside a middle school being hit. supervisor peskin says both he and police are evaluating it at this point live in san francisco, dan kerman kron. 4 news. thank you, dan. >> tonight, a man is dead and another is in custody following a horrible accident in san jose. according to police, a man driving a truck was speeding this morning on capitol expressway when he ran a red light at center and hit

a cyclist, his truck then lost control and hit another car. the cyclist was killed while being arrested. a ghost gun police say was recovered in the driver's possession. he was taken into custody so far. we don't know what if any charges, the driver will face the identity of the cyclist has not yet been released. >> new at 5 or clay city manager dean williams. ridley has resigned after 9 years on the job. williams ridley will stay on until july 10th after which time the city council is going to consider appointing an interim city manager before hiring a permanent replacement. but she didn't say why she is resigning. her resignation comes on the heels of some high-profile departures from berkeley city. government, 40 former city councilmember kate harrison. she resigned in january shortly after councilmember rigel robinson also quit his office. robinson sided stress and exhaustion due in part to

harassment and threats that he says that have impacted his family. chen is a police arrested. 87 people over the weekend during cinco de mayo. the department released those arrest numbers today ranging from physical fights. 2 duis kron four's rob nesbitt joins us live in studio with details of what went on during the holiday. rob. vicki, there were celebrations for cinco de mayo all over san jose. this past weekend, police took part in many of them and stressed that the high number of arrests happened near festivities but were not related to that. >> to weekend was very a busy. >> san jose police had their hands full during cinco de mayo. the department says that from a 3rd to may 5th, there were 17 felony arrests, 18 warrant arrests and 52 arrests for misdemeanors, totaling 87 for the weekend. according to sergeant jorge garibay. >> shrien reckless driving. we had a significant amount of sideshow activity popping up all over the city in which we have to try and utilize

resources and take away from the celebrations trying come back. officers were getting bottles thrown at their vehicles we had officers had been assaulted people driving drunk. we had one vehicle crashed into a patrol car. i was doing a diversion and injured are officer. there were 156 traffic citations made and 6 gun seized during the weekend. >> on sunday, police also responded to a stabbing on king road involving 2 victims, a minor, adult man. the mine was released from the hospital it down. now we actually got an update just before we came out here is still in critical still remains in the hospital. getting treatment. we don't know whether or not they're out of the woods yet. san jose police spent months preparing for cinco de mayo and also took part in celebrations from one officer singing during a performance to others driving a classic police car in a parade. and we had a dance over in east san jose. we also had to event in downtown san jose, which we're all extremely successful, actually, while attending family events, police enforce a 0 tolerance tactic towards criminals. and sergeant karen bass as visitors were responsible for the disruptive

rosa. beautiful. sunny 71 in livermore, 70 and sunny and san jose. 67 light breeze and oakland and 63 degrees in san francisco. high pressure been talking about it is now building in overhead. there's another weak storm system up in the gulf of alaska. but that's not going to get here. that ridge of high pressure just too strong. in fact, as that ridge begins to settle in overnight tonight, all of a sudden we're going to see those winds turn more of a northerly direction. that's that offshore wind that should keep your skies mostly clear. in fact, if you're stepping outside this evening, what a nice night to go out there for a walk. temperatures very comfortable holding off the 70's across much of the bay area as we head to the evening hours, looks like we'll stay clear all night long. much warmer weather is on the way. we'll talk about that and some gusty winds coming up in a few minutes. sounds good. thank you, lawrence. swell a mile long section of the great highway in san francisco along ocean beach. >> could one day be closed to cars? send turned into a plaza with trails and possibly staircase leading down to the beach for decades. erosion is

>> she was described as the best of us. and now the best of us is going on. >> the alameda county sheriff's office remembering one of their own tonight after she was killed by a drunk driver over the weekend in san leandro. antoinette fund. now an emergency dispatcher was on our way to work sunday night when she was hit at the intersection of east 14th street and 100 50th avenue. authorities say the impact of the crash caused her car to roll over. she was only 3 blocks away from her job. >> the day that she was tragically taken from us. she had work her shift and had left at 07:00pm and our dispatch center needed additional help and she agreed to come back. so she was on her way back to work ever a moment to help people understand help devastating

drinking and driving can be. this is an example. unlike other. the daughter, a sister. the driver who hit to now was arrested and is now behind bars. >> now leaves behind a young daughter and a loving family. her memorial is now being planned. police in oakland have released a sketch of a man that they say is wanted for homicide back on august. 30th of last year. police say that it happened around midnight on east 18th avenue. 2 people were shot to many williams died at the scene. the other victim was taken to the hospital. no word on the severity of their injuries. police also releasing this picture of a ford f one 50 pickup truck. investigators say this truck belongs to the suspect. anyone with information is being asked to contact police. firefighters in oakland responded to a fire in residential structure near laney college this afternoon. smoke, as you can see there, just billowing out of the roof

of the two-storey structure. that's it. eat east, 8th street and 6th avenue. firefighters say that the building had been previously red tag and that there have been several fires in this house in the last 9 months, the house and next door was damaged but not extensively. no injuries were reported. the exact cause is under investigation. >> a former solano state prison correctional officer has been arrested and charged accused of smuggling weapons into the prison and taking bribes. the suspect who is in being named yet served as a correctional officer at the prison between 2020 2021. and during that time, they say he accepted thousands of dollars in cash payments for contraband ranging from cell phones to tobacco and alcohol to deadly weapons. >> the city of richmond is looking to make a major move against pg and e e the city's vice mayor says it's important to take a stand against the utility. so tonight the

council is voting on whether to ask the state to implement and expand the golden state energy act. that could have a a i nonprofit provide energy to residents. the vote is symbolic. but the vice mayor says that for years the city has been rocked with power outages and problems, including the failure of pg and e to supply energy to city parks. >> we we don't as responds. especially low-income communities and communities of color. that say that reliable and say these the think i but the ways to really take. the power. way from corporation. >> pg e has released a statement to kron 4 saying it does not support the idea of a statewide public utility because it would not benefit the customers or the state's economy. tonight, city council meeting is set for 6.30.

>> all right. take a live look outside on this beautiful tuesday night. baked in sunshine in san frncisco and everywhere you look around the bay and we're getting ready for a taste of summer this week. yeah. bring out your bottle of spf because you're going to need it, right? frank, up see to it. this temperatures going to be the hottest in the season so far. >> as some of those numbers, 80's, maybe even a couple of 90's as we head toward the latter part of the week. so, yeah, i think it's time to switch all the clothes had to go back and forth of quite a while. now. now kind of looks like we're settling in to almost a suburb pattern outside. so there looks like we're going to see some winds kicking up. that's kind of the culprit here to see the downside, some of those gusty winds right now you're seeing more of a seabreeze right along the coastline into sfo right now. but overnight tonight, those winds are going to start switched directions and that's where we'll start to generate some of the warmth some of that air begins to sink. it starts to warm up and makes way back toward the coastline. a little bit of a

normally composed the wind right now. that will keep your skies. mostly clear. northeasterly winds developing overnight tonight. that means we're going to wrap those up and that means well, we'll get those offshore winds and a beautiful weather all the way. the coastline, little breezy out there right now going to be windy in spots. so as we take you through the night tonight, that ridge of high pressure beginning to build in as it does. you start to see those winds coming out of these dropping right over the sierra nevada working their way back toward the bay area. so as they begin to sink, they compress and they warm up and dry out and well the different times of the year. but can worry about fire danger? not this time of years. looks like thanks very wet out there right now. a lot of moisture content and lot of brush outside right now. but that onshore flow that of soon about the change. you see those offshore winds developing that northerly wind and look at those gusts 40 miles an hour. napa. 43 in vacaville. 43 in fairfield as we head toward tomorrow morning. winds will likely continue to be blustery as we head toward the afternoon. then another round of some gusty winds. i think early on thursday morning. now, of course, those winds of your driving a big vehicle watch out for that fire danger, not

>> the cost of college. so out of hand these days, house lawmakers in washington questioned education secretary miguel cardona about major issues like the botched overhaul. a fafsa the committee also discussed protests on college campuses and the consequences for students and universities. kron four's washington correspondent basil john reports. >> education secretary miguel cardona within the hot seat on capitol hill, he apologized to students and families for delays in the fafsa process committed to getting it right and making sure we opened doors to access to higher education for more students across the country, wisconsin republican congressman glenn grothman is worried if the glitches will continue in the future, we it that you broke
