major power move. what they will be discussing tonight. >> news station. 2. >> thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. i'm justine waldman. we're going to begin with some developing news after a bicyclist was killed after being hit by a truck this morning. it happened near the intersection of center road and east capitol expressway. this incident cause road closures in the area for several hours. kron 4 charles clifford is there and joins us now here live with the very latest. thanks for the update, >> well, good the scene here at center in capitol expressway has been clear. the roadways have been reopened. what but one person has died and another person is in custody. lets go and take a look at some video kind of walk you through what happened here early this morning. now, according to the san jose police department around 7.23. this morning, man driving a red truck was speeding

eastbound on capital, ran the light here at center and struck a cyclist. an adult male was riding his bike northbound on center was near the crosswalk. they're in the intersection, the red truck that apparently according to police, lost control and struck another vehicle, another white truck, the cyclist was declared dead here at the scene. the driver of that red truck was taken into custody at this point. we don't know what if any charges that person might be facing. the san jose police department was here on scene until just a short time ago, maybe half hour investigating taking pictures looking for surveillance video trying to figure out exactly what happened but so far they have not released the identities of either the person who was arrested or the man who died here at the scene. this is an ongoing investigation. but for now in the south bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thank you. we're also learning some new details about a man accused in 2 hit and runs in san francisco,

including one involving a middle school student. >> this morning policed and san francisco got a report of a person hit in the area of jones and market streets in the tenderloin that victim and urban alchemy worker was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. officers tried to pull the driver over, but they say he would not stop. so they chased him. and police say he then hit a 14 year-old girl near francisco middle school. she is a student there. that's new details we're getting now. she now has a fractured shoulder and ankle but is expected to be okay. san francisco police called off their pursuit. the suspect is accused of crashing into parked cars before slamming into a stop at the embarcadero and green street said that's where this video is from. believe the person that they're interested in is on the ground there. that person then taken into custody and then went to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. an investigation is now underway and anyone with information should call san

francisco police. and alameda county sheriff's office. dispatcher is being remembered as a loving mother and co-worker after her life was taken away by a suspected drunk driver. well, she was on her way to work. kron four's tiffany justice to its to live with the legacy that she leaves behind. thanks for joining us. all right. the sheriff's office speaking with kron 4 today, remembering a colleague who brought joy to the office. >> a life cut short on her way to help others. >> was a she was a force and she was described as the best of us. and now the best of us is gone. her family described her as a start. >> the alameda county sheriff's office mourning the loss of one of their own after an emergency services dispatcher was killed by a suspected drunk driver sunday night. and when it feel now is heading back to her job work a double what her life was taken at the intersection of e 14th street and 100 50th avenue in

san leandro. >> she loved being the person that received those calls for help or assistance. and she just took great pride in it. she took joy in it the day that she was tragically taken from us. she had worked her shift and have left at 07:00pm and our dispatch center needed additional help and she agreed to come back. so she was on her way back to work and made just about 3 blocks shy of our dispatch bunker. >> now started with the department back in 2021. quickly making her joyous presence known and was promoted last year. she was highlighted just 2 weeks ago for national public safety week. fyi now spoke about her love for family. >> another my favorite things in family. i have to use on to not one of them only about a month and a half they are the best part of captain says the

family is appreciative of all the love and support from the sheriff's office and surrounding law enforcement agencies. the 32 year-old driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was taken to jail where she remains. >> police say she crashed into females car, causing it to roll over. >> you know, if there was ever a moment to help people understand help devastating drinking and driving. >> can be. this is an example. >> unlike other. daughter, a sister. >> and honestly, the only thing i want to know is that justice gets served. >> we're being told a memorial is being planned. now leaves behind a young daughter and a loving family. the san leandro police department is leading this investigation reporting live in the newsroom to justice kron. 4 tiffany, thank you so much. >> a brentwood police officer does not have qualified

immunity in a civil rights lawsuit stemming from an incident in which his police dog scout a shoplifting suspect. this is according to a federal district court ruling. we're going to play that body camera video from the incident into a warning before we show what it could be a disturbing to some. it was in february of 2020 that officer ryan resent us was responding to a report of shoplifting from an ulta beauty store. his german shepherd found tamika bates hiding in the bushes and then clamped down on her scalp for about a minute. a bite. she says has left her with ongoing traumatic brain injuries. a civil rights lawsuit is going to resume in this case later on this month. >> 7100 pounds of fentanyl and more than 3.4 million fentanyl pills have been taken off california streets. >> since the start of this year, governor gavin newsom announcing these details today. fentanyl awareness day in march alone. the california national guard's counter drug task force with the help of

happening in the weather department. thanks for joining thank you. you know what, this temper this camera right now from mount temple type highest shows clear skies, a beautiful view of san francisco. >> in terms of whether this is just the kind of afternoon you might expect for this time of year, clear skies, lots of sunshine temperatures very seasonal. so no big changes for us for now. but the thing you wouldn't expect necessarily is the north wind. so we are seeing all kinds of risk of strong winds right at the coastline. in fact, we see a small craft advisory that will actually go expire and then we'll see a gale warning in effect. and that starts out. 3 o'clock strong winds. so we've got 20 to 30 knot winds at the coastline. gusting to 40 and breezy across the entire bay area this afternoon into this evening. get so gusty in the east bay that there is a high wind advisory that's in effect

starting at 11 o'clock tonight through tomorrow morning. and that starts right in the central valley stretching all the way down toward delay. whoa, and all the toward the bay. so look for gusty winds. today's weather is brought to us by the pacific high. that high pressure is keeping things breezy at the coastline and then very warm and beautiful inland. but again, this is seasonal. that's today for tomorrow. we're looking at a change. we're seeing a start of a warming trend. temperatures tomorrow in downtown san francisco. 71 71 also in golden gate park as we start to head toward the coastline will keep things in the 50's in many areas. 57 degrees tomorrow and elgar not a 63 in half. moon bay along the bay shoreline tomorrow numbers mainly in the low 70's. 71 for san bruno. and these numbers are a little bit warmer than normal. 79 degrees redwood city as we head toward the south bay. we're stretching into lower 80's. 82 for campbell tomorrow. 82 milpitas and the east bay numbers also in the 70's and

80's. so 81, where the hot spots for livermore tomorrow. 81 also in hayward, my forecast for in does 71 degrees. richmond, 81 degrees as you head up toward napa. things are beautiful. 81, it's warm and it's dry. great conditions all for the north bay, santa rosa at 84 degrees. in terms of the temperatures, they do start to rise. so today that normal and as we head toward thursday, friday, saturday, we have a warming trend and then it starts to taper off just as we head toward the end of the weekend and into the workweek. just think. all right. coming up, some progress being made on one bay area. college campus has the encampments. >> we remain at other universities and this is all coming as israel's invasion of rafah is now underway. plus, stormy daniels taking the stand. what she is saying about the first time she met former president donald trump. we'll hear what she did on the stand at his hush money trial in new york today. but first, a month-long pilot program under way in the north bay.

north bay, a month-long pilot program is now underway in the city of allay that street that divides to schools. >> it's going to be shut down to car traffic during the weekday school hours. kron 4 sweet about reports. this is all in response to several shootings and frequent speeders that have sometimes made that area unsafe. >> starting this week through june 7th, nebraska street between amador and pierce streets in vallejo will be closed to through traffic on school days. only monday

through friday, from 9 o'clock in the morning. until 4 o'clock in the afternoon hours. responses. >> yesterday we came over here. you know, we've got to get in, but they're blocking area down there. >> and up there. but i know why the roadway divides vallejo high school and the john finnie education complex. the closure is a pilot project being carried out by the vallejo city unified school district in partnership with the city of vallejo. >> and is meant to make the area safer for students and staff in the past 2 years. there have been several shootings on and outside school grounds leading the school district to launch this pilot program to enhance public safety keeps everyone on the streets. for school. >> mortgages. >> school. oh, we definitely heard the during the football game is concerning because our properties really close nicole lives on one end of the closure and supports the program, but just hopes it does not lead to increased

>> the president also affirmed israel's right to exist as an independent jewish state, calling it, quote, ironclad. even when we disagree. and the pro-palestine encampments remain in place across bay area college campuses at san francisco state. the university president mahoney held in open negotiation session with the demonstrators yesterday. students demanding that the university disclose financial times that the college may have with israel and then divest immediately. mahoney says the school may consider avoiding investments based on the mechanics of war just as it takes into account climate impacts and racial justice. the uc berkeley chancellors now saying that following guidance from the regions, there will be no suspension of any academic ties with israel and no divestment from israel. meantime, the san francisco bay area office of the council on the american islamic relations is praising uc berkeley for launching a civil rights investigation into allegations of harassment and

discrimination against a muslim student by a law professor last month, a dinner for graduating uc berkeley law students got heated. here's the video when a pro-palestinan palestinian protester stood up to read a speech about ramadan and the war in gaza. the dinner was held at the home of to berkeley professors, erwin. chairman ski and catherine fisk. the video is showing fisk physically trying to remove the protester. the protester was asked to leave but did not do so. so. said that san francisco, the the bay area office is saying here we're at we commend uc berkeley for initiating this investigation and taking steps to address potential civil rights violations. it is crucial that all students, regardless of their religious or political beliefs are safe and respected at university sanctioned events. so there

was some pro-palestinian demonstrations that happened right outside of the met gala last night. they got within a block of the events. some broke through police barriers, but they were quickly caught. they said it was their intention to crash the gala order to get their message out. but they never actually made it to the event. 27 people were taken into custody and they were released this morning. adult film actress stormy daniels took the stand in the hush money trial. former president donald trump today daniels describes how she met the former president at a celebrity golf tournament in lake tahoe in july of 2006. she was 27 years old at the time. she later testified in detail about the encounter with mister trump saying she thought she was going to dinner with him at a restaurant. but was asked to meet. a hotel suite instead, she said the trump told her she reminded him of his daughter, trump's former personal attorney and fixer, michael cohen said he paid daniels $130,000 to keep quiet

squeeze sensors and the find my. so if you lose it, that's built into it. the entry level ipad now starts at $350. tiktok and its chinese parent company bytedance are suing the u.s. government in order to challenge that law that would force the sale of bytedance a steak or face a ban saying that that law is unconstitutional. the lawsuit may be setting up what could be a legal fight over its future in the united states. the company claims the law, which was part of a bigger foreign aid package is, quote, obviously unconstitutional. opponents of the law argue that chinese authorities could easily get information on americans in other ways, including through commercial data brokers that rent or sell personal information. the faa has launched an investigation into claims that some of boeing's employees falsified inspection records for the company's 7.87 dream liner jet. boeing disclosed this matter to the faa last month. the company claims the

the south bay, a man accused of shooting to san jose police officers is now facing attempted murder charges. >> new court documents are revealing that kevin briones showed up to a san jose hotel to see a woman that he used to have a relationship with. and that's when police say the woman called the cops and the shootout started. >> your benefit 30 and the night. >> and then the hard some of objects seal says he and his wife are watching tv at the extended stay. america and seemingly right outside their door. >> and then suddenly hard, some loud noise like the middle noise. i i didn't

from a 3rd through may. 5th police say there were 17 felony arrests. 52 misdemeanor arrest. 8 cars impounded 156 traffic citations and they seized 6 guidance staying in the south bay. no criminal charges have been filed after an 11 year-old girl was hit and killed by suspected dui driver in cupertino. investigators say the girl was one of 4 kids standing on a sidewalk on foot. helen stevens creek boulevard last month when a pickup truck plowed into them. the other kids aged 8, 7, 4, are okay. the suspected driver has been identified as adam will. he was allegedly high when he crashed into them. he bailed out of jail last week and remains out of custody. detectives are waiting for a talk solid g report to be completed. >> not the one. the >> the california highway patrol got a call for a

witness about a man firing a gun from his car on 5.80, at seminary avenue in oakland. this is the dashcam video from the witnesses car. this march 29th, the chp arrested the man they say fired the shots. they say dominic, jerome taylor was driving drunk when they arrest him. police are now searching for a musician who was last seen in san francisco. eric travers vanished in the city on tuesday of last week. he is 6 feet. 4 inches tall. weighs about 250 pounds. he has long brown hair and was last seen wearing tanned pants, a silk shirt, a brown leather jacket and a black san francisco giants baseball hat. traverse came from north carolina to san francisco where he was in the city recording music and auditioning for a band. according to his brother, traverse checked into the cathedral hill hotel in the tenderloin family members are concerned because they say he has epilepsy and needs to take his medication every 12 hours. so if you have any information about his whereabouts, you're

asked to contact the san francisco police department. some developing news now we're learning more about the health code violations that forced the shutdown of an oakland mcdonald's. so look at this video here. that's a rat. the health department saying they found signs of rat activity, including droppings and a dead rat kron four's less the good and has the story. >> on friday, the alameda county health department shut down this mcdonald's at 13, 30 jackson street in oakland with customers waiting in from the health department. they have some sanitation the season. they need to clean up. >> and we saw inspector filling out this health report. it reveals that 7 violations were found at the restaurant. >> including rodent activity. the report explains rodent droppings were seen around the water heater along the walls and wrote it. traps responded as well to hold were seen in the kitchen and a dead rat was found on a trap near the soda syrup boxes. we feel like.

to cars. and now there's a new proposal for a mile long portion to closed to traffic for good by early 2026. as part of a project to protect the city's western shore from rising sea levels. kron 4 s charles clifford has the details. >> last week, san francisco's land use and transportation committee advanced a plan to close most of what's known as the great highway extension between slow to skyline boulevard for decades. erosion has eaten away at the beach and blocks between the ocean and this section of the great highway cleaning sand off the roadway has become a constant problem, especially after winter storms. there are also frequent closures af this section of the great highway. more than a decade ago. san francisco develop a long-term plan to deal with climate change and erosion along the city's western edge. closing this portion of the great highway has been under consideration ever since in place of the roadway. the city wants to build a network of trails a plaza and possibly a staircase leading down to the beach. but the plan is not

authorities are investigating a shooting that happened outside of drake's house in toronto. this incident left the rapper security guard. >> seriously wounded. this all happened earlier this morning and when officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. he was rushed to the hospital. he had been standing outside of the gates in front of the residents when this happened. authorities did not say whether was a drive by but did indicate that the people involved were seen in a vehicle. investigators searched the neighborhood and recovered video evidence from the shooting. drake whose given name is aubrey drake. graham is a multi grammy award winner. and then recent weeks, drake has been involved in an ongoing feud with kendrick lamar. the rappers have been going back and forth putting a distracts attacking each other with some serious allegations. and during a news conference, reporters asked about this ongoing feud between drake and the rapper kendrick lamar and whether or not that is part of the investigation into the shooting.
