>> 7 o'clock is the time right now. the copper morning news, new information on what led to a shootout between an armed man and san jose. police. an alameda county sheriff's office dispatcher is killed by suspected drunk driver ball on her way to work or live with. what workers are remembering? and the push for california to dump pg and e and switch to a different utility company may be throwing an east bay city is about to vote on that. >> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning and thanks for waking up with us on a tuesday. i'm sorry. and i'm james. we've got lots of talk about on the news front. we'll get all those stories in a minute. but let's start the hour with a check of the weather was just speaking. if there was a glow yet from that nice hot sun is going to get hotter as the week goes on yeah, it's definitely know. and we're not warming up quite yet, though. are still up to this cool start this morning.

so if you look behind me there, you've got the bright skies and the cool temperatures for that morning jog at the embarcadero right now got another cruise ship pulled up just moments ago, docking there and it is a nice morning to be walking around the city, especially considering that we have these clear skies this morning. no fog whatsoever. and we are not seeing a whole lot of cloud cover left at this point. temperatures, as i mentioned, are still cool. a lot of 40's dublin sitting at 47 right now. same in timber on has said if you're at 51 while alameda sitting at 53 degrees to start the morning, a few 30's way up north in the day. later on, we warm up just a few degrees compared to yesterday spiking in the low to mid 70's at the warmest michael thomas in again for this morning. going on the roads. hey, good morning, everyone. the roads are looking good. for the most part, you can see traffic tracker for. >> for the most part, nothing too out of the ordinary. but we are seeing some backup here on 6.80, near the benicia bridge. and that's because we are dealing with an accident on the actual bridge. so you

can see it's the southbound lanes, both the left and center lanes are currently blocked and it's causing that back up throughout 6.80. so just keep that in mind. if you're utilizing that this morning, taking a look at the bay bridge this morning, 19 minute commute into the city and taking a live look at the san mateo bridge. it's a 21 minute commute into the peninsula and taking a live look at the richmond, sandra fell bridge. it's a 12 minute commute. there. and lastly, that golden gate bridge coming in at a 21 minute commute for those who are heading into the city by and james, we'll send it back to thank you at 701, in the south. a man accused of shooting to san jose police officers faces attempted murder charges. now, in fact, new court documents reveal that kevin brionna showed up to a san jose hotel to see a woman that used to have a relationship with. >> she called police and that's when the shootout occurred. crawford jet moment has more. >> yeah, kind 30 and the night. >> and then the hard some of objects seal says he and his wife are watching tv at the extended stay. america and

seemingly right outside their door. >> and then suddenly some loud noise like the middle noise. i i didn't gunshots. people inside had no idea what did some late. so my dog started barking. that's where i mean, we knew that something really because he's been going on. seal said he thought about calling the cops, but he soon realized what was happening. yeah, really hard it goes going to get see that a shootout. 2 officers shot one of them with just a year of experience on the force. the suspect to kevin angelo briones reportedly shot several times. we don't us is charged with 2 counts of attempted murder on the police officers. the police report says the woman briones reportedly showed up for is a domestic violence survivor. >> and says her during this had a previous relationship, 3 young kids were out the hotel with the woman at the time of the shooting. what we had was an armed, dangerous felon showing up in the middle of the night. police say officers

stop briones from possibly hurting the woman and the kids nights events offer a stark reminder. >> of the solemn oath they take to protect and serve our city video. this is a felony, which means if he's convicted, these charges could put him in prison for life. yeah, it is. i think pretty bad for that information. but the city and for seal, he says he and his wife now are worried that staying at the hotel. was not a good. >> that. it's going to happen >> that was moment reporting. briones was supposed to make his first court appearance yesterday. but he's still in the hospital. police say they're also one of the officers were treated released in the hospital. but the other is still in the hospital in critical condition and expected to survive. >> another big story that we're following this morning in alameda county. the sheriff's department there is mourning the loss of one of their dispatchers, remembering her as a loving mother. >> and co-worker. she was killed sunday night on her way to work when she was hit by a suspected drunk driver. kron four's will tran live in san

leandro with the story. well. >> james story as she was less than a half-mile from work when she was t-boned at intersection in san leandro. the alameda county sheriff's office just a couple of weeks ago highlighted her work. my let me show you a picture of her. and now now back on april, 20th. actually, she was highlighted by the sheriff's department for the national safety public telecommunicato week for safety week. so they loved her. now, all of a sudden they found out the horrific news that on sunday night only to quickly show a map of the location about 0.4 miles from this location that east 14th and one 50th she was crossing an intersection at 11, 15 at night heading to work as a dispatcher when all of a sudden a car comes out of nowhere crosses intersection and slams right into her. it was so horrific that by the

time, yeah, emergency responders got to the scene. well, the her injuries so horrific that she was unconscious. they managed to take her to the hospital, but ultimately she died from injuries. she was ultimately escorted her body to coroner's office by the san leandro police department. alameda county sheriff's office as well. that's the chp along procession. i just read on the alameda county sheriff's office page. they said her family told them she was born a star. thank you for escorting her to the place as though she was a star that she was we are grateful for take a look at your screen. this is their statement from the sheriff's office. they say we lost a dedicated, energetic, loving alameda county sheriff's office, family member. she took pride in her work because helping others gave her a joy that she was a mother and she saw i saw the

video of her guys. she said one of her joys in life was also being anti to her young nieces and nephews. she was with the department for 3 years as far as the alleged drunk driver. 32 year-old woman and she was not injured in the crash as the investigation continues. back to you. 706. and also in the south bay, a suspected dui driver struck and killed an 11 year-old girl. >> she was hit in cupertino along with some other kids are on the sidewalk. the girl, one of 4 children on the sidewalk at foothill and stevens creek boulevard last month. a pickup truck plowed into the kids. the girl was taken to the hospital where she fought for her life for several days. but you could make it the other children. we're just ages 4, 7, 8, they are okay. the driver is identified as adam

and police say that he was allegedly high when he crashed into kids on the sidewalk. he bailed out of jail last week and remains out of custody. so far no criminal charges have been filed against detectives are waiting for a talk such a college. report. >> not the one the freeway. >> and this hear the pop, pop pop. this we hear that. that's a dash cam and witness. we've got this video for them and it shows the gun being fired from a car idea carry out old >> this is on march. 29 and the windows when the out the car shooting out of the car to death he's identified as dominant jerome taylor. and they say he was also driving drunk when they arrest him. >> happening today, richmond city council members are set to vote on a resolution for

the state to use a nonprofit electric company instead of pg and e they argue that the nonprofit golden state energy would serve the public better if passed. richmond would join san francisco in calling on california now to take action and address what they see are the core problems with pg and e. well downtown areas across the state could be getting more housing. there's a new bill looking to require cities to convert historic buildings into housing units. san francisco assemblymember matt haney introduced the bill. it would allow state lawmakers to quickly greenlight office to housing projects, putting an end to the lengthy and costly approval process that's in place. the bill now is headed to the assembly appropriations committee. they'll have their hearing tomorrow. >> it's 709. and today, educators in san lorenzo will t% rally demanding better pay because they say they're struggling to make ends meet in the bay area with how much they get members of the san lorenzo education association want better pay better

attention of staff and recruitment and they say that this lack of teachers and educators is really affecting a student's education as well. so they're going to call attention to these issues at 04:00pm in front of the san lorenzo unified school district today. oakley police are saying that they are noticing more car thefts and more break-ins. take a look at this video shows a break-in that happened. a kia parked in the driveway someone's home. somebody breaking in right there and then this man took off before officers got there. the studios from sunday night. so far this year, police in oakley have received 42 reports of stolen cars last year. 147 cars were stolen. >> just thinking how how we start again. i mean, we've got one trump laugh. >> and east bay business owner, heartbroken after 4 of his tow trucks were destroyed. adam ledesma owns california towing and he says over the weekend several people set these trucks on fire. in this

video, you can see a person going up to the cab of the truck and then running off flames. then the from the driver's side of the cab. he says after this weekend he's worried about his drivers now and the safety of their families. >> i just me that they were my chart spy. my older they're finding especially wives and kids. >> care. >> contra costa fire protection district says they're working right now on the case. the owner says he gave them video call for crime scenes in hopes of it will help find the suspect. >> coming up on the proper morning news rodents found at a mcdonald's in oakland will tell you what a full report from health department%said about this fast food restaurant. so we'll take you there. plus, in the middle east, hamas has apparently accepted a cease-fire proposal will tell you how people here in the bay area on both sides of the issue are reacting. and a new study this morning is naming one bay area city. worst, the drive-in all of the

that. no. may gray, just very nice and sunny and look at that. that cruise ship is actively that can read up into pier 19 can see it slowly moving they're going slow. that's a big boat stopped. we are going to be looking at a nice day to be venturing out along the embarcadero really anywhere across the bay area. today's daytime highs are going to be a little bit warmer than yesterday's were. and any chance of rain or snow is being sent well to the north of us out of the region. so we're in for a dry trend in this forecast for the remainder of the week. the weekend and even much of next week, any sort of long-range forecaster may be showing some chances of rain after the 20th of the month. that's still a long ways out. so in the meantime, just a little bit breezy and offshore wind northerly winds kicking up tonight for solano county and out into the delta in the central valley. high wind advisory for solano county last from 11:00pm tonight on through 08:00am on thursday morning. now today's daytime highs are going to be a little bit warmer than they have been

the past couple of days. still cool at the coastline with those 50's and 60's out this direction. all those 60's to a lot more 70's today in your forecast. carlos palo alto, each right at 70 degrees, south bay temperatures pretty much solidly at 72 lot of uniformity. there. and you're seeing that in the tri valley to at 71 from fremont hayward up through oakland, it's almost all 70 degrees. so we're looking very similar to one another pittsburgh fairfield in santa rosa among our warmest of spots each at 75 today, tomorrow's temperatures will rise back into the low 80's for inland areas by friday and saturday. we're close to 90 degrees for some inland spots. bayshore cities also in for a warm up from the low 70's today into the low 80's starting on thursday. michael. thanks, jeff. good morning, everyone. the time is 7.16 taking a look at your roads. we are dealing with different traffic collisions around the east bay. take a look right here on the benicia bridge. there's an accident. so the left and center lane are currently going to be closed. >> and you can see it's

causing some of that back up there on the southbound 6.80, lanes. keep that in mind. if you are utilizing those roads this morning, you could yeah, try to head over now. there's really no other way. if you stuck there, you have to get off and then get back on. chp is trying to figure out if they can get out within the next hour or so. taking a look over the oakland area, the northbound 8.80, are currently closed partially. and that is because of an accident at hegenberger in oakland and then over on the other side, if you're using westbound. 24, there's an accident there in 2 lanes are currently closed at the called a express. excuse me, call hotline. so keep that in mind. taking a look at some drive times right now, livermore to dublin, 12 minute commute, dublin to fremont. 23 minutes. san leandro to milpitas a 37 minute commute milpitas to sunnyvale. a 9 minute commute. taking a look at the antioch area to 46 minute commute from antioch to concord and taking a look at westbound 80. if you are you

the u.s. is updating its social security estimates. lingering inflation may mean bigger payments and expected next year. and while the official cost living adjustment won't happen until october, the government does start working on those calculations right now. a disneyland will have a bargain price for you over the summer. however, the theme park is going to require visitors to purchase 3 day one park tickets that are only good for admission monday through thursday. the price of the total package is $149 for children. $249 for adults that works out to about 50 bucks a day for your kids and $83 to get a day for grown-ups. by comparison. if you buy a one day one park tickets throughout the full week, it cost $104 to $194. and you're right. krispy kreme celebrating mother's day with a new collection of baby little mini donuts. the collection will be available in a 16 count box. it includes for many original glazed, but 3 new flavors as well,

hamas. 7 months ago, we've seen the impacts of protests from college campuses to the golden gate bridge. samara, robbie, with the arab resource and organizing center has taken part in demonstrations, calling for a cease-fire and was relieved to hear the update monday that hamas accepted an egyptian-qatari proposal for a cease-fire. >> a little bit of hope and some relief, right? the idea that maybe all of this carnage. a tense up can finally end after months and tens of thousands of people dead. >> the proposal accepted by hamas called for a permanent cease-fire. u.s. pop of israeli hostages for prisoners and would allow displaced gazans to return to their homes as israel has ordered about 100,000 palestinians evacuate the city of rafah before a ground invasion by militants there. to me, this looks like them trying to pump the brakes on the operation because they know that this is their last holdout. >> last grasp on on power in gaza, executive director of the jewish community relations council bay area. tyler gregory hamas must be removed from military and political control of gaza.

san antonio road. fire officials say residents were able to get out safely, but there was extensive damage to the building that damage estimated at about a million dollars so far the red cross is currently providing temporary housing for those 9 residents. the cause of the fire still under investigation. well, after more than 15 years, prominent vietnamese restaurant, the slanted door announced it is not returning to the san francisco ferry building. chef charles phan told kron 4. he's parting ways with that location because of high construction costs. but he says he is excited for what's to come next. what her future projects he's working on. if you still want to dine at slanted door, they do have to other locations. there's one in san ramon in the other. >> in napa now, weinstein in san francisco is handle it. okay. tomorrow highway 9 is going to close in saratoga for 3 days because caltrans is going to make is in repairs on. as you can see here, the saratoga creek bridge, they're going to be fixing that will be closed from 09:00pm until

couple of 30's in the way up in the north bay, like in calistoga at 39 degrees. so not as cold in the morning and a slightly warmer afternoon today. tomorrow is going to warm up even further. setting us up for a really warm end of the week. i'll get to that. your full forecast. michael. thanks, john. and good morning, everyone. taking a look at the roads this morning. you can see on traffic tracker for is for the most part, pretty average. but we are dealing with some delays over in the east bay, specifically over at the benicia bridge. you can see. >> there's an accident there and it's now causing backup on southbound 6.80, lanes. so if you are taking that route, you may want to use 7.80 and then take a t to get over towards the kraken area and get down from there. taking a look at us northbound 80. there's also an accident there and it's causing some congestion from oakland all the way to san leandro. it's at the hague and berger road lane. so if you want to utilize international boulevard, you can do that. chp, however, says it should be cleared up in the next few minutes or so. taking a look over towards the calder cup

tunnel. there's an accident and they're currently right now. and that is causing some if you're in the year in the area or if you're driving in from walnut creek, keep that in mind because that could be there for the next 30 minutes to an hour or so. and lastly, taking a look at the bay bridge this morning. it's currently an 18 minute commute into the city and those metering lights are i will send it back to to the desk. thanks a lot. michael 7.31, in san francisco. officials say for the 3rd time in a row, their quarterly count of tense and structures on city streets has dropped. yeah. we have kron four's dan kerman reporting now that the city is pleased with the numbers, of course, but they know there's a lot of work still needed to be done. >> san francisco's tenderloin is far from 10th free, but a drive through the area suggests there are fewer tents and encampments than before. and now city data backs that up ever sense. 9th circuit court appeals decision once we started to go into action, we've seen a decline of encampments over 40%. so we're

really excited about what this means to the stats show the number of tents and structures has dropped from 609 in july of 2023. to 361 in april of this year. last week when i was walking around the tenderloin and some of those areas where they have been some real problems with it encampments. they're gone and you noticed a big difference in how the streets look and how they feel when you walk down the streets and how much cleaner they are. and while there may be fewer tense, there are still a lot of people on the streets. and because of that many who live and work in san francisco still see little change. i literally walked a gauntlet every morning from the bart station to get here to my so no, i don't see an improvement may be in different areas it's possible, but not in this the mayor says encampment outreach teams have conducted 242 operations this year. >> and made 1530 encounters

with individuals of those. the city says 30% of the time the offer of shelter was accepted. 60% of the time it was refused and 10% of the time individuals were already housed. we've increased our shelter says i've been mayor by 66%. we've increased our housing options by over 50% for people on the where creating the opportunities. and we just need people on the streets where we are offering in to accept what we're offering will encourage. san francisco's mayor is not taking a victory lap. >> she knows there's still more work to be done and she hopes the momentum will continue. in san francisco. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> 7.34 is the time and police finally arrested. homicide suspect ending hours-long lockdown of an entire neighborhood in antioch. it happened in the area of gentry town drive and put them street. police identified the suspect as 28 year-old carlos policy was from stockton. that

neighborhood was locked down for several hours before reopening at about 5 o'clock last night. 7.34, is the time. and today the man accused of killing a shop owner in san francisco's richmond district. we'll be up for a preliminary hearing in court. santos still rossa. >> is accused of beating sixty-year-old yohannes to wal d and he ended up dying. he beat him with a baseball bat outside this convenience, trumbull bella street in august of last year. police say well, they tried to stop de la rosa from shoplifting and to all the died of his injuries. 5 days later in hospital de la rosa faces several charges including murder and assault with a deadly weapon. the court hearing starts at 09:00am. >> in pacifica, 2 people were injured in a 3 vehicle crash that involved a suspected drunk driver. this haened around 5 o'clock last night on highway one near fassler avenue. when police got there, they were 2 drivers involved in the crash treated for minor

injuries. and the 29 year-old driver from san francisco was arrested for dui and booked into the san mateo county jail. >> well, san jose police say 2 people have died as a result of 2 separate crashes. that happened back in april. the first crash happened on april. 27th was along various road near capitol avenue. toyota corolla hit a honda suv. is that corolla crossed multiple lanes, all try and while trying to turn into a parking lot. the passenger in the honda was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. she died on may 2nd and that second crash happened. april 30th that was on south 10th street right san jose state campus and riding an electric scooter in the opposite direction of traffic hit a tesla that was making a left turn on to elizabeth street that crashed through the scooter rider into traffic where he was struck by another car that rider was taken to the hospital where he also died on may. 2nd, the deaths marked the city's 15th and 16th fatal collisions this year. >> 7.36 right now and the developing story we're

following now. we're learning more about the health code violations that forced to shut down this mcdonald's in oakland. officials say they found signs of rat activity, including droppings and a dead rat kron four's lisa goodman with the story. >> on friday, the alameda county health department shut down this mcdonald's at 13, 30 jackson street in oakland with customers waiting in line on from the health department. they have some sanitation the season they need to clean up. >> and we saw inspector filling out this health report. it reveals that 7 violations were found at the restaurant, including rodent activity. >> the report explains rodent droppings were seen around the water heater along the walls and wrote it. traps responded as well to hold were seen in the kitchen and a dead rat was found on a trap near the soda syrup boxes. we feel like. >> a lot of more rats than the past that moments. this is oscar rodriguez who has worked there since 2022. and says the
