>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning far. >> good morning. it's 05:00am here on the kron. 4 morning news on this tuesday. may 7th. i'm james fletcher in for harvey lot of news to get to. we'll get to that here in just a minute. but first, let's start with a check of weather and traffic. we've got john and michael standing by here in the studio. let's begin with you, john. good morning. good morning, james. and we are looking at another cool day today, although. >> not quite as cold as yesterday was, which was a frigid start in the 30's and 40's looking outside at the golden gate bridge. right now. skies are clear out there. we're not talking a ton of fog this morning. we have had some slip up and down the coastline, though. so do watch for a little bit of that, especially up in the north bay. now temperatures are in the 40's to 50's right now. as i mentioned, we're not quite as cold as we were yesterday, but comparable in a few areas. calistoga and kelsey ville are only 2 spots in the upper 30's nevado definitely more mild only at 50 degrees. same in

oakland and concord as well. now later on today, daytime highs are going to be just subtly warmer than yesterday. climbing into the 70's today for more of the bay area. now, tomorrow is going to be even warmer yet. and the day after that, getting downright hot, i'm been noticeable warming trend for the rest of your forecast. still to come, michael. >> thanks, john. and good morning, everyone. taking a look at your roads. everything is fairly good this morning, but it's only 5 o'clock. i'm sure by 6 o'clock things will start to be moving and shaking. taking a look at the bay bridge right now. 7 minute commute. those metering lights are not on. so people are just flowing on through the san mateo bridge this morning. 13 minutes on to the peninsula. everything is well, they're that richmond, sandra fell bridge 7 minute commute to get over that. and lastly, that golden gate bridge, it's a 20 minute. don't have too many drivers this morning. but that will change soon. i will send it over to you at the desk. all right. thank you very much, michael. >> in the south bay, the man accused of shooting to san jose police officers is facing attempted murder charges and

new court documents reveal that kevin briones showed up at a san jose hotel to see a woman that he used to have a relationship with him. that's when the woman called police and the shootout followed. kron four's jack moment has the story. >> your benefit ready in the night. >> and then the hard some of objects seal says he and his wife are watching tv at the extended stay. america and seemingly right outside their door. >> and then suddenly some loud noise like the middle noise. i i didn't gunshots people inside and had no idea what did some late. so my dog started barking. that's where i mean, we knew that something really because he's going on. seal said he thought about calling the cops, but he soon realized what was happening. yeah, really hard it goes going to get see that a shootout. 2 officers shot one of them with just a year of experience on the force. the

suspect kevin angelo briones reportedly shot several times. we don't us is charged with 2 counts of attempted murder on the police officers. the police report says the woman briones reportedly showed up for is a domestic violence survivor. >> and says her during this had a previous relationship, 3 young kids were at the hotel with the woman at the time of the shooting. what we had was an armed, dangerous felon showing up in the middle of the night. police say officers stopped onus from possibly hurting the woman and the kids these charges could put him in prison for life. yeah, it is. i think pretty bad for position. but the city and for seal, he says he and his wife now are worried that staying at the hotel was not a good. >> to hear that it's going to happen >> that was jack moment reporting briones was supposed to make his first court appearance yesterday, but he's still in the hospital with injuries sustained from that

encounter with police. in fact, police say one of the officers was treated and released from the hospital, but the other still listed in critical condition, although that officer is expected to survive. >> not the one the >> the california highway patrol got a call from a witness about a man shooting a gun from his car on 5.80, seminary avenue in oakland. this dash eam video is from the witnesses car back on march 29th and you'll see them and pointing the gun outeide of his car. chp ended up arresting the man there. we have highlighted for you. they say that dominic, jerome taylor was driving drunk when they arrested him. he's now in custody. us and the other emergency dispatcher has died now after an alleged drunk driver hit her car. investigators say it happened sunday night on 14th street on 100 50th avenue. the driver was arrested investigators say the victim antoinette. knew she died at the hospital. they say her car flipped over when

she was hit on facebook. the alameda sheriff's office said that she died a senseless and tragic death at the hands of a drunk driver while going to work. they say she loved her job and took pride and helping others. happening today. richmond city council members are set to vote on a resolution for the state to use a nonprofit electric company instead of pg and e they argue that the nonprofit golden state energy would serve the public better than if passed. richmond would join san francisco in calling for california to take action action and address the court, that they have with pg and e. well, downtown areas across the state could be getting more housing. a new bill looks to require cities now to convert historic buildings into housing units. san francisco assemblymember matt haney who introduced the bill says it would allow state lawmakers to quickly green like office to housing projects, putting an end to lengthy and costly approval processes. the bill now heads to the assembly appropriations committee for hearing

tomorrow. well, israel has begun military operations in the city of rafah. this started hours after hamas announced that it had accepted a cease-fire proposal to halt its war with israel. israel's prime minister benjamin netanyahu's office says the proposal was not good enough but said israel would send negotiators to continue talks regarding a cease-fire agreement. kron four's rob nesbitt reports on local reaction now to this proposed deal. since israel wage war against the terrorist group hamas. 7 months ago, we've seen the impacts of protests from college campuses to the golden gate bridge. samara, robbie, with the arab resource and organizing center has taken part in demonstrations, calling for a cease-fire and was relieved to hear the update monday that hamas accepted an egyptian-qatari proposal for a cease-fire. >> a little bit of hope and some relief, right? the idea

that maybe all of this carnage. a tense up can finally end after months and tens of thousands of people dead. >> the proposal accepted by hamas called for a permanent cease-fire. u.s. pop of israeli hostages for prisoners and would allow displaced gazans to return to their homes as israel has ordered about 100,000 palestinians evacuate the city of rafah before a ground invasion by militants there. to me, this looks like them trying to pump the brakes on the operation because they know that this is their last holdout. >> and last grasp on on power in gaza, executive director of the jewish community relations council bay area. tyler gregory hamas must be removed from military and political control of gaza. >> and that all remaining 133 israeli hostages must be freed. what's under consideration is if hamas is allowed to stay in power at the end of this war, everyone's worried it's going to repeat the attacks said as much they're committed to doing that. egyptian and hamas officials have said that their cease-fire deal would take place in 3 stages each 6 weeks long. israeli prime minister

that obviously divestment disclosure is our biggest aim, as is the fact that we maintain ideologically that while cease-fire is obviously at the moment, we're still pushing for a fully liberated palestine as soon as possible. >> right near the pro-palestinian camp and on stanford's campus is a memorial set up at white plaza commemorating people killed and held hostage by hamas. organizers say the chair symbolize the more than 100 people held hostage since october. 7th, while place markers represent grave sites for the people that they say hamas has killed. >> the primary goals were too help. 2 students and israeli students feel less isolated lesson battled on campus and to show that. there is our narrative is also on display there's a place for us to go grieve. pray. >> well, it's now been 7 months since hamas attacked israel and the war began.

>> in the north bay, a man is dead following a shooting in vallejo. police say it happened about 7.30, sunday night on north camino alto. the cause that shooting still under investigation. police haven't given any details about a suspect just yet. we'll let you know when we find out more. in the meantime, in pacifica, 2 people have been injured now in a 3 vehicle crash involving a suspected drunk driver. it happened just after 05:00pm saturday. this was on highway one right near fassler avenue. a police officer arrived at the scene to other drivers involved in that crash were treated for minor injuries. the 29 year-old man from san francisco that was arrested was charged with a dui book now into the san mateo county jail. we're going to take a break here. 5.11, but still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news tow trucks in the east bay were destroyed after being set on fire. now the business owners trying to figure out >> how they recover. we'll be right back. plus rodents found at a mcdonald's in oakland will tell you what a full report from the health department says was happening

all inmates at the federal women's prison in dublin for either transferred or released. the prison was abruptly closed after 8 employees were charged with sexually abusing inmates. the bay area's first wnba team has a new general manager. golden state warriors announced the hiring she comes from the new york liberty where she was the assistant general manager. and the rangers beat the a's. 42 yesterday, both teams will play each other again today at 12. 37. well, this week is wildfire preparedness weekend. authorities are hosting a series of events across the state to raise awareness. >> on monday, officials were discussing how they're preparing for the 2024 fire year and going through ways that you can help protect yourself against the threat of wildfires. they warned against becoming complacent, especially with recent wet weather. >> despite all the rain and snow that we've had this year, we still must be prepared for wildfire. all right. and one

of the best ways you can protect your home is to clear any brush and other fuel around your home. creating a defensible space. today there will be an event in el granada in san mateo county. talk about it more. all right. on that note, let's get a check of the weather. i know john's been talking about temperatures climbing this week. let's see how warm it will get a job. yeah. you know, when we dry out that even after such a wet spring, we still do have a wildfire risks, especially after all this growth we've been seeing. >> this is the east bay hills right here, spot right there where you might want to have to clear some of that brush all that tall grass out for sure. we are going to be seeing skies that are clear and dry today and to really for the remainder of this forecast, high pressure ridge is only building in now. so any chance of moisture as well away from us for at least the next 10 to 12 days of this forecast. so that's easily the rest of this week's forecast and into the weekend to we have high pressure. ridge built up still a little bit breezy at times. but not as

much as we had been. the delta in particular, really solano county, having some of our windiest of conditions gust as high as 45 miles per hour with a high wind advisory going into effect 11:00pm tonight and lasting through thursday. 08:00am in the morning. today's daytime highs will be nice and comfortable a little bit warmer than yesterday. coastal areas staying cool while the rest of us in the 60's to 70's. definitely a lot more 70's on the map today than there were yesterday. south bay temperatures, san jose campbell, santa clara among spots at 72. 71 for the tri valley and 70 right up the east bay shoreline from oakland, berkeley, down to san leandro, pittsburgh and fairfield at 75, 2 of our warmest spots along with santa rosa. also at 75 today, tomorrow starts or trend of 80's inland. and by thursday, we even got some 80's along the bay shore. all of this and are crystal clear, sunny skies. we will see some morning fog, especially towards the weekend as

temperatures inland rise upward near 90 degrees. some of our coastal spots will get especially foggy. michael. thanks, jon. temperatures. good morning, everyone. it's 5.17, taking a look at your roads this morning. not too bad. your drive times are all pretty good. this hour. >> 11 minutes from livermore to dublin, dublin to fremont 18 minutes. san leandro to milpitas 19 minutes milpitas to sunnyvale. 6 minutes. when we take a look over the antioch area, it's normally congested right now. 17 minutes from antioch to concord. so not too bad. taking a look at westbound 80 from the crockett over to the maze. it's a 60 minute commute. no major delays. there. you're turning off and using that richmond, sandra fell bridge. well, it's a seven-minute commute over that. and that bay bridge this morning, you can see that sun starting to peek through there. it's an 8 minute commute into the city. and lastly, we'll take a look over at southbound 8.80, oakland, 2 to 38 is only about a 10 minute commute. so all is well this morning, james. we'll send it back to you. okay, michael, thank you very much. 5.18 is the time and happening

today. educators in san lorenzo are going to be rallying to demand better wages as they struggle to live here in the bay area. >> members of the san lorenzo education association say they're also demanding better retention of staff and better recruitment. they say the lack of teachers and educators are now affecting student education. that rally is set to be held at 4 this afternoon in front of san lorenzo unified school district. well, san francisco police are looking for a shooting suspect after someone was shot in the soma neighborhood. it happened yesterday morning in the area of 6th and mason street. this is video from the citizen app showing dozens of police on scene. no word on how that victim is doing. we're still trying to track that down. meanwhile, oakland police say they are seeing more car crimes. we've got some video showing a man breaking the side window of a kia in the driveway. you see him there. oakley police say the man ran away before they were able to arrive on scene. this video is from sunday night so far. 42 stolen cars were reported to the oakley police department this year. last year they had

147 stolen cars. a small business owner in the east bay is searching now for answers after some of his tow trucks were set on fire. kron four's theresa stasi reports. now the owner thinks his business was specifically targeted. >> not one but 4 tow trucks. that's how many the owner of california towing says were set ablaze this past weekend. in this video, you can see a person going into the cab of the truck and then running off flames blowing out of the driver's side. we're standing in front of one of the tracks that was torched. yes. how are you? all right. sad. >> sad and. just thinking how how we start again. i mean, we've got one trump laugh. >> download as my says that he started california towing 9 years ago using a savings and loans from his family. he says he built a small but successful business from scratch. but now he says someone is trying to take it

been set. this is the 6th year of the program and keeps getting better and better. all right. happening tomorrow, highway 9 will be closing in saratoga for 3 days. caltrans says crews are going to be making repairs on the saratoga creek bridge. so the roads going to be closed from 9 at night till 7 in the morning. again, that's wednesday night. thursday night, friday night with construction expected to be completed by saturday morning. after more than 15 years, prominent vietnamese restaurant, the slanted door announced its san francisco ferry building location will not return. chef charles phan told kron 4 he's parting ways with the location due to high construction costs but says he is excited for future projects beyond vietnamese food. the slanted door is known for craft cocktail menus. the restaurant was one of the first to offer them on menus. if you are craving slanted or they do have locations open in san ramon and napa. well, 5.26, is the time and a ban on

>> james, she worked for the alameda county sheriff's office for 3 years. it was her job to dispatch police officers for emergencies. but it turns out that she was the one who needed someone to be dispatched to her because of her emergency. let me show you her picture. her name is antoinette fit now and she was heading to work at around 11, 15 on sunday night. get this. this happened about a half mile from my location from the sheriff's office is in stanley and rose. she was at east 14th and one 50th which is this is being investigated by the san leandro police department. so they won't be any conflict of interest. she crossed the intersection at that particular time when another car comes out of nowhere slams into her. so horrific lee that she died from her injuries. the officers investigated and it turns out the driver of t other car was dui. that person

was arrested for that. that person's name not be released to the public at this time. do know that now worked for the sheriff's department for 3 years and her death, obviously is rocking the office. so take a look at your screen. this is what they sent out wednesday. >> until one of their colleagues with many people showed up to work on monday. they say we lost a dedicated, energetic, loving alameda county sheriff's office. family member. she took pride in her work because helping others gave her a not only was she employee james. she was also a mother. >> 5.33, is the time. let's go to the south bay now where an 11 year-old girl has died after she was hit by suspected dui driver in cupertino. >> investigators say that girl was one of 4 children who were standing on a sidewalk of foothill and stevens creek boulevard last month when a pickup truck plowed into them.

the girl was taken to the hospital where she fought for her life for several days. they say the other kids ages 8, 7, 4, we'll survive. the suspected driver was identified as adam lou. police s y he was allegedly high when he crashed into the children. he bailed out of jail last week and remains out of custody so far no criminal charges have been filed against him. detectives right now we're waiting for a toxicology report to be completed before they move forward with their investigation. happening today, the man accused of killing a shop owner in san francisco's richmond district will have his first preliminary hearing. santos de la rosa is accused of beating sixty-year-old yohannes to wall the to death with a baseball bat outside a convenience store on balboa street. it happened in august of last year. that's when police say to well, they tried to stop de la rosa from shoplifting to all died of his injuries. 5 days later. and de la rosa now faces several charges, including murder and assault with a deadly weapon. he'll be in court at 9 o'clock this morning. more developing

news now. we're learning more about the major health code violation that forced alameda county officials to shut down and oakland, mcdonald's officials say they found indications of rat activity, including droppings and the dead rats kron four's lezla gooden has the story. >> on friday, the alameda county health department shut down this mcdonald's at 13, 30 jackson street in oakland with customers waiting in line on from the health department. they have some sanitation the season they need to clean up. >> and we saw inspector filling out this health report. it reveals that 7 violations were found at the restaurant, including rodent activity. >> the report explains rodent droppings were seen around the water heater along the walls and wrote it. traps responded as well to hold were seen in the kitchen and a dead rat was found on a trap near the soda syrup boxes. we feel like. >> a lot of more rats than the past that last time this is

oscar rodriguez who has worked there since 2022. and says the closure is needed good because i know that people it's not going to takes closer to get any like infection are get to see about that. and they're at. but i worry as the war care. that i know all day, we are looking those states. he and other workers were striking but decide to come to work on friday and was there when the mcdonald's was forced to close. he says they were instructed to stay in clean up. the violations washed the floor. >> every lie. all the dishes. everything we use in there. >> clean the walls >> all goes to you go out and that's it. and you mask and that's and starting monday, they are resuming their strike and to professionals come in to do with the rat's might going out to pay our will our days. we are losing. because
