travelers just not prepared for the snow and hazardous road conditions. it is not unheard of to get snow in may of this year, but >> this is a lot of snow and large is back with us now to do a little deep dive on what we saw. lawrence, this is some yeah, a couple of feet of snow for this time of year. that's pretty amazing. although i've seen snow in the sierra been up there before the middle of august to. so really all depends. but this was an exceptionally cold storm dive in right out of the gulf of alaska, bringing that unusually cold air across much of california. we felt the effects of all the rain, the high country. they had a ton of snow added to some pretty impressive totals so far this season. stay at the white cap. mounds out there. boy, it's not going to get much more going to see that all melting away in the coming days as high pressure going to take over now. i don't see another cold storm like that on the rise and still looks beautiful up there. all this white here that's not clouds. that's all snow. as you look across the crest of the mountaintop there all the way to the north. and that's kind of what we're seeing now, as we've seen just a tremendous year of snow. again, for the sierra about of the second year in a row. and

that is some fantastic conditions really kind of a make things better for water resources ahead. temperatures out the door in the you're still a chilly 36 degrees in incline. 41 in tahoe city of 41 in emerald bay. so little chilly, but a pretty comfortable temperature-wise number's going to be warming up, though. so i know a lot of folks i talk to some people that went up there. the high country, yosemite valley, expecting sunshine, warm weather. they got caught out that snow about 8 inches near 70 valley. temperatures warming up in the 50's. things are going to mount enough to worry about. and the snow coming in the near future. in fact. well, i just don't see much on the way throughout maine, if that doesn't happen in but usually don't get it until we head in toward fall season. so here's where we sit the year-to-date, 119% normal in the northern sierra nevada. 96 1% normal this year, the central sierra and 79% of normal in the southern sierra nevada. all up. we're just about 99% of normal for the entire season, which is some good news for us. so that's 2 years in a row. not only does it help our water resources and replenish the groundwater.
5:23 pm
