after a number of vehicles were set on fire. >> news station. he's calling news 2. >> thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. i'm justine waltman tow trucks that were torched an east bay business is now in turmoil this past weekend, the owner of an east bay towing company says several groups of men deliberately set his tow trucks on fire kron four's to stasio reports. the owner thinks that his business was targeted. >> not one but 4 tow trucks. that's how many the owner of california towing says were set ablaze this past weekend. in this video, you can see a person going up into the cab of the truck and then running off flames blowing out of the driver's side. we're standing in front of one of the tracks that was torched. yes. >> how are you? all right. sad. >> sad and. just thinking how

concord, therema kron, 4 news. >> and now we have some new details coming out of the south bay where one of the officers hurt in a shootout at a san jose hotel remains in critical condition and is now expected to survive. >> last week 2 officers were shot responding to a domestic disturbance at the extended stay. america hotel in the center, theresa neighborhood, one of the officer suffered minor injuries while the other was left in critical condition. the gunman identified by police as kevin briones is also in critical condition. san jose police are crediting the 2 officers with saving the life of a woman and 3 children. and then the north right now, suspect from a friday evening standoff on i-80 in fairfield remains in critical condition after the chp says that he shot himself highway patrol originally released details that he had died. but doctors were able to revive him at the hospital. police say, but the chase started in windsor where the suspect shot at an suv on highway 101 driver was not

hurt. officers then spotted the shooter suspected car and rohnert park that led them to fairfield and onto that hours long standoff that shut down traffic on 84 hours. the solano county district attorney's office is now handling the investigation. a double stabbing on the east side of san jose left 2 people in critical condition. some roads in the downtown area had to be closed by police response to the side shows on sunday. investigators say that this double stabbing happened just before 5.30, in the area of south king road. way a person that we spoke with said that this is very frustrating because cinco de mayo was supposed to be a day for celebrations. >> would say i'm not phase, but >> is is just part of life. and, you know, unfortunately things like that happen, the people to do things that are unfortunate. but i don't think the majority other people should suffer at the cinco de mayo. god bless and protect those people that were hurt.

>> police have not released a motive or any other information about the attacker. big story tnat we're following this afternoon is that israeli leaders have approved a military operation into the gaza strip and the city of rafah there and israeli forces are now striking targets in that area. this announcement just coming out and it's coming after hamas says that it did accept a cease-fire proposal for mediators in egypt and qatar and attempt to try to end the 7 months of war in gaza. the agreement coming hours after israel's military said it ordered thousands of people to evacuate rafah, signaling the long promised ground invasion there today on kron 4 news at noon, i spoke with the university of san francisco professor said while hamas to accept this offer is real, has not made any announcement yet about it. >> this is the closest we've come and the fact that we are this close, sir, some hope that even jax that they might

according to mayor london breed. the mayor's office says the city's 10 count found 360 tents and structures on the streets across the city that represents a 41% drop since last july. the mayor's office ice increased efforts to offer shelter shelter and housing as well as cleaning up the encampment says factors behind those. a tense numbers are decreasing. the mayor's office also says the city has placed nearly 500 people from encampments into shelters since the beginning of the year. also new now at 2 o'clock this afternoon, disgraced theranos ceo elizabeth holmes had her prison sentence reduced by 4 months, according to the bureau of prisons, inmates can get time taking off when they complete certain prison work programs is in there. and in november of 2022, homes was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months behind bars last july. that sentence was reduced by 2 years. was convicted on 4

counts of wire fraud for letting doctors and patients use her company's blood testing services. knowing that her company was incapable of producing accurate results. so homes is now set to be released in august of 2032. converting to start buildings into housing. some new legislation out of san francisco aims to bolster the downtown areas all across the state. san francisco, some remember matt haney introducing a be 30 68 today. he says it would allow state lawmakers to quickly green light office housing projects putting an end to a lengthy and costly approval process. you'd be action. and the california preservation fund. the 2 groups normally been at odds are together co sponsoring this legislation, which also prioritizes preserving historic downtown buildings. the bill heads to the assembly appropriations committee for hearing on wednesday. all right. we're taking a live look outside here in san francisco. there's

quite how or blue skies, not a lot of clouds in this picture at all the breezy and we have meteorologist dave spahr with us today to go over what's happening. weather wise in the bay. >> hey justine. yeah. you don't have the clouds and your shot. i got him here. half moon we'll see a little in the way. also, some fog develop a little bit. it looks like in the south bay with some clouds also working their magic a little bit overnight. check out these temps, though, not bad. this only the first day we're going to get much more warming later on the week ahead here. upper 60's already in the far east bay. 67. meanwhile, up to santa rosa. 59 chilly degrees. san francisco member that onshore winds been with us all day. 67, san jose. but what is developing is the high pressure we know this as a heat spike guy, but that's very early in the season. so it's going to give us a warming trend all week long. it's expected to break down a little bit by the time we get into the weekend, which is why there's a little question mark as exactly how that's going to transpire in play out for now. looks dry, clear and all that. but we may have to introduce maybe a few little scattered clouds, bring down the temps a little bit. as far as the

winds get that first onshore, as you can see here. but let's get to the fog here tonight. it starts to develop a little bit. patchy fog. now it starts off a little bit in san francisco, but actually doesn't stay here along the coast will actually see by tomorrow morning is some patchy inland fog that will mix out very nicely for a nice day in store for us. 62 by 06:00pm by 9. we're talking about 54. probably fair to kind of called variable clouds, but it really depends on where you are. we're really looking in the south bay peninsula, maybe a little alameda county is where the most the cloud cover will be heavily concentrated. just to give you an eyeball of what's going on here, sunny and mild for early into the week here, 60's for the bay 70's inland. but it's late in the week. it gets interesting here. warming up nicely. 80's are back 70 to 80 ish around the bay over the weekend. there's a weak system that develops. and for vhe most part, we're just kind of calling a mostly sunny, maybe a touch cooler, blah, blah, blah. but we're watching it to see if there's more development on that front to

...the monthly one-and-done you want. >> hamas says it has accepted a cease-fire proposal, but israel is still moving forward with its planned invasion of rafah. our washington correspondent jessi tenure now joins us live from dc. and so jesse, have we heard yet from israelis about this hamas proposal? justine, according to prime minister benjamin netanyahu's office, israel has not agreed to any sort of deal with hamas as of yet. and biden administration officials are on the ground there in the region to trying to help with all of this.

>> at a critical stage right now, the israel-hamas war in gaza could be closer to an end. the terror group hamas announced monday it accepted a cease-fire proposal at the white house national security adviser john kirby says u.s. officials are still reviewing it and will be encouraged when we get a deal in place and we can start seeing hostages get back to their families. the details of the potential cease-fire deal are still unclear. a spokesperson for israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu called mosses proposal far from israel's necessary requirements. the news came just hours after israel dropped flyers ordering palestinians to start evacuating from rafah. a military operation in rafah right now >> dramatically increase the suffering of of the palestinian people. on monday, president joe biden told netanyahu once again that his troops should not attack. >> but netanyahu in says taking rafah would ensure hamas cannot repeat. it's october 7th attack more than a

million palestinians are still sheltering their problem. now, is there such? >> limited places for them to go inside gaza and there is no effective way to distribute distribute aid to rafah has been a main entry point for humanitarian aid to gaza. >> that's why u.s. officials are still hopeful for a deal to end the fighting. these fires absolutely achievable. >> the cia director is also in the region trying to help broker a deal. in the meantime, israel did confirm that it is moving forward with its ground invasion of rafah live in washington. i'm jessi tenure and just how congress responding to these developments? it does seem that by and large lawmakers are pretty skeptical of this hamas announcement of a deal just kind of like the biden administration and moving forward to one of their biggest priorities has, of course, been the release of the remaining hostages. and even though we have yet to see

the official deal or any sort of kind of along those lines herbal point, things of that nature and official sure aren't saying anything. it does seem like the hostages have been left out of the equation as of right all right. we'll be following this. jesse, thank you so much. >> also today, the jewish community relations council released a statement saying it does not take positions on military did say in part here, we believe that hamas as a terror organization must be removed for military and political control over gaza. and that all options must be exhausted to return the remaining 133 hostages. we call in israel and the international community to maximize humanitarian aid to gaza, civilians. urge the idf to exercise caution to minimize civilian casualties. and that will go to stanford where there's a new display that's up for the hostages that are still being held cop captive. and for those who were killed in captivity, about 250 people were taken hostage and more than 100

financial times that the college may have with israel and then divest students say once they see the university taking steps to meet their demands, then they will consider cleaning up their encampment. >> i once we start seeing implementation and we have a clear layout of those plans, have a schedule to know that not only have they agreed, but they're actually putting into action. our demand. then we can begin discussing the process suspending the camp ross >> as state officials say they will respect the student's right to protest and will work to keep everyone safe. pro-palestine supporters that set up an encampment that uc berkeley are now negotiating with school officials. so far no agreement reached. that would end the occupation on campus. among some of the demands from the protesters, they want the university to financially divest from israeli interests and also condemn israel is doing in gaza to fight hamas. and then they also want students and teachers to be allowed to speak freely about the conflict without the fear of

punishment. and today, columbia university canceled its large university-wide commencement ceremony following weeks of palestinian protests that have just done a lot turmoil on campus. students will still be able to celebrate that. a series of smaller school-based ceremonies this week and next, another campus shaken by the protests, emory university, it announced today that it will move its commitments. a commencement ceremony from its campus quad in atlanta to a suburban area, but others, including the university of michigan, indiana university and northeastern have done their ceremonies with very few disruptions. and these pro-palestine student activists, usc say they're not done after a los angeles police cleared their encampment over the weekend. this is students prepare to graduate this week. officers moved in at about 4 in the morning yesterday at alumni park. as many as 100 protesters had pitched tents. 10, we're holding up signs. officers quickly cleared the

protesters. there were no arrest. this was the second police crackdown on campus in less than 2 weeks. and israelis in tel aviv marking, you show, which is the holocaust remembrance day. today's remembrance coming for the first time since the october 7th hamas attack that sparked the current war between israel and hamas. it hostage is square. a table was laid out to remember the hostages taken by hamas during the attack. they arrive to last. not from us travel. and it feels very meaningful to be it feels very meaningful to be here stay on your show quick. just want everyone to that. we're screaming and crying and governing doing everything that we can. for all people in israel from around the world. >> about 250 people were taken hostage in more than 100 people are still being held captive right now. the attack also killed more than 1200 people in israel, which made it the deadliest violence

>> at least a dozen people have become sick by e-coli outbreak linked to organic walnuts from central california. they were sold in haves and also pieces from gibson farms. that's based in hollister. the fda says they were sold in bulk bins and natural food stores like whole foods. the walnut were sold in several states, including california and 7 people had to go to hospital. 2 of them develop s me dangerous forms of a kidney disease. the products have expiration dates between may 20st and june, 7th. and the makers sriracha sauce have now halted production and that's sparking some fears about another shortage of that popular, spicy condiment, hoy fong

family member inside of the gunman's home nearby. former president trump has now been fined for a 10th time and threatened with jail time for violating the gag order in his hush money trial. that's happening now in new york city. the judge presiding over the case fined him $1000 today while the jurors were hearing testimony for the first time about financial reimbursements at the center of this case. the latest find coming after trump criticized the jury selection process in the tv interview claiming without evidence that the jury was stacked with democrats. the judge imposed a gag order meant to barr, the former president for making inflammatory statements about the trial outside of court. and that was election day, just 6 months away. there is a new decision desk headquarters at news nation. polling showing how voters feel about the border and how the issue is now continuing to emerge as a defining issue for this race. so when asked about 4 different issues and which one stood out as a bigger less

>> now to a story you saw first here on kron, 4 health inspectors shut down a mcdonald's in oakland to investigate an alleged rat infestation. kron four's lezla gooden has the story and a warning. there are raps in it so it could be difficult to watch as they crawl around the food. i was right in the parking lot of a mcdonald's located at 13, 30 jackson street in oakland when a health department employee started turning customers away, who were inside and in the middle of the drive-thru. i asked what was the cause of the store closure. this was her response from the health department. they have some sanitation the season. they need to clean up. >> what did you find you mind telling and this comes while 6 mcdonald's employees are actively on strike from this location due to what they say is an and healthy. >> working condition. now take a look at this video captured inside by a worker where you can see a live rat on the

counter. now the mcdonald's employees say they have found rat eating food prepared for customers. the workers have now filed a formal complaint to cal osha with the help from the california fast food workers union. >> when i saw that he is i want that is disgusting. and so this is problem not just the employees working on these conditions, but also for the coastal the communities i also spoke with the alameda county health department about these concerns. >> i was told the location did receive annual inspection back in february and no violations were found. and once we share some of these allegations made by the employees, the department said they would be sending an inspector by to investigate. and that's what we saw on friday. and i did reach out to mcdonald's earlier before the store closure and they sent us this statement from the owner and operator joseph wong. it reads in part, it's important that employees have a safe place to

that was a record that was set in 2019. so they're saying that tourism is actually doing better. now, then before the pandemic, governor newsom says that is not the only thing that the state is retaining because it's going to keep its title as the world's 5th largest economy. it's also growing in population for the first time since the pandemic. according to the latest data, the travel industry supported about 1.2 million jobs last year. that's up 6%. tourists created about 4% more revenue in 2023 and spent about 5% more. but the report is crediting inflation for that with adjusted inflation, travel spending was actually down 14% from 2019. and although the governor chose to announce this tourism boost from san francisco, the city is still not seeing a full recovery from covid like the rest of california. san francisco may just over 13 billion dollars from tourists and 2023. that's about a billion more than

in a couple of days, we have all this populated in the 70's with some pockets of lower 80's. and that will be pretty much wednesday thursday and even into friday. but the high it's still got to get its act together and as it does. so we'll have some of those offshore winds popping in solano county, right on target, just like we did last week. it may be to the level of the wind advisory, but it hasn't been posted if that's the case yet and probably a red flag warning. we didn't have that either last week either. so looking at future cast in terms of that fog, you see it develop for san francisco, the peninsula this evening, pre midnight post midnight. most of the fog will be left in some of the little valley, as you can see, well inland greeting us tomorrow morning and will be some scattered clouds kind of hang around the south bay through much of the day much of the overnight to tomorrow morning. but all of that should clear out for tomorrow. back to the mostly sunny mode for this week, warming up inland. those temperatures in the 70's and 80 ish even for the bay. certainly in then we'll see that in for the weekend. look sweet. but we're watching the
