this morning. things are looking good. this our last year we saw some delays on southbound 6.80. so you may see some residuals there. but taking a look at the bay bridge right now, it's only 14 minute commute over that bay bridge. we do have this metering lights on. so you will be stop and go there at the toll plaza. san mateo bridge, 13 minute commute over that on to the peninsula. taking a look at the richmond, sandra fell bridge seven-minute commute there. everything is running smoothly and taking a look at the golden gate bridge. it's a 19 minute commute into the city. so no major delays this monday morning, tara and james, we'll send it back to you. thank you. michael won a big story following months of controversy. waymo announces it's going to start expanding in the pennines. yeah. the company will soon be testing its driverless cars in 7 bay area cities. >> kron four's will tran joins us live from burlingame with a look at where those cars will be rolling next to a well. >> burlingame is one of those cities, james. the other cities include como brisbane, millbrae south san francisco daly city. they are moving

down the peninsula don't expect to hop into a waymo anytime soon because yes, it's going to happen here in burlingame. but you have to be an employee for waymo at least when it starts off after that. if it's successful, there's a chance in you, too. can hop into a waymo waymo. well, it's facing a lot of controversy not just in the bay area but across the country as well. i know a lot of people are pushing back thinking that they are not safe in san francisco. just a couple of months ago we saw a waymo set on fire in san mateo county. they don't want this. i personally interviewed a supervisor in san mateo county and he said he's fearful that once they get on to the freeways at that speed with no driver, they're very concerned about that. but the california public utilities commission, as well as the dmv, they have given the green light for waymo to expand. waymo will monitor the sithation. and again, it's only 4 employees

initially after that, there's a good chance that you, too, order a waymo and you can hop in. so right now they are going to do that. but the pushback continues. not just in san mateo county, james, santa clara county. they also want to push back and are pushing back by introducing legislation that they hope will make its way throughout the state that will allow local jurisdictions, not just the dmv or the state to decide like the cpu c. >> but local jurisdictions to decide whether or not they want waymo to come into their counties. >> back to you. all right. thanks a lot. we'll check in with you later. time now is 604, man. cinco de mayo is celebrated over the weekend here in the bay area in san jose. every year as they like to do the event brought thousands of people to the downtown area. and we were there capturing all the fun and festivities. come moment has more. >> easily more than 1000 people paraded through the streets right here in downtown

double stabbing on the east side of san jose to people are in critical condition now and multiple roads were shut down while police responded. 2 sideshows, the double stabbing happened around 5.30, in the area of south king road in lido way. person was there spoke to us, says it's frustrating their resident. they say, was was to be a day for fun. >> would say i'm not phase, but is is just part of life. and, you know, unfortunately things like that happen to people to do things that are reported it. but i don't think the majority other people should suffer it at the scene where the mile. god bless and protect those people that were hurt. >> and this point, we don't know who's responsible. no leads for the police at this point. one person was killed when several cars crashed in san jose. that crash happened a little after one in the morning yesterday. the crash was on highway 101 near north

mathilda avenue. the southbound lanes where it happened was shut down. a one on one for about 3 hours while police investigated. we do not know the names of the 2 people who are injured. and one person was killed and in the east bay police are now investigating a after a person was shot and killed near lake merritt. >> this is actually video from the citizen app. police say the shooting happened just before noon sunday on first avenue. victim's name hasn't been released. but in that same area, a driver crashed into the parking lot of america's best value inn on east 12th street. that's what you're seeing here now. police haven't confirmed if the shooting and the crash are connected, but that's something they're looking into. meanwhile, police in oakland caught one person allegedly planning to take part in a side show last night come police shared this on x saying the driver was identified as a side show promoter he was arrested for recklessly evading police. opd says it had additional units out last night prepare to respond. any sideshows that might popped up. well, an

arson investigation is now underway following a fire that destroyed horn barbecue in oakland. it happened just a few days before thanksgiving last year. and since then, it's owner matt boren has maintained his restaurant was targeted by arson. officials have now confirmed the fire was in fact, deliberately set. but there's no word on a suspect just yet horn barbecue, by the way, did reopen last week as we reported was part of horns. it's now part of horns. other restaurant called maddie's old fashion. that's in downtown oakland. >> some appear on the iconic golden gate bridge, a testament to america's greatness. california's greatest. we could be more proud to announce today. record breaking tourism numbers in the state of california over 150 billion dollars tourism. spend unprecedented in our state's history. >> the governor a choosing an iconic view and backdrop for his big announcement about the tourism in california. the governor announced that tourists have spent more than

150 billion dollars in california in the past year surpassing the 144 billion dollar record which was set in 2019 tourism is actually better than it was before the pandemic. the governor says not only is the state retaining its title as the world's 5th largest economy. it's also growing in population for the first time since the covid pandemic. according to the latest data, the travel industry supported about 1.2 million jobs last year. that's up 6%. tourists created about 4% more revenue than in 2023 and spent about 5% more here in california. the governor chose to announce that big boost as you saw from the golden gate bridge in san francisco. the city, though, still not seeing full recovery from covid like the rest of california statewide. san francisco just over 13 billion dollars from tourism in 2023, which is more about a billion

and here are 4 things to know. tomorrow. a man accused of killing a shop owner in san francisco's richmond district will have his first preliminary hearing. >> santos de la rosa is accused of beating 60 year-old johannes to wall the to death with a baseball bat outside a convenience store on balboa street back in august of last year. the suspect in a friday standoff on 80 in fairfield remains in critical condition after the chp says he shot himself. the chp originally reported he had died but said that medical teams were able to revive him once they got to the hospital. students at stanford continue their protest against the war in gaza over the weekend. students tell us they have received no communication from the school since last week when the university warned them that their camping on campus could lead to suspension were possible arrest. the a's six-day winning streak came to an all

out. there is long as you've got the extra layer on because it's a chilly morning. 40's for most of us, a few 30's up in the north bay, including napa at 38 degrees. temperatures have been cool throughout the weekend with saturday bringing that rainfall to the bay and a lot of snow to the sierra one to 2 feet of upper elevations that rain and snow is exit the region and will continue to work its way out of the rockies and into the central plains. we're actually is resulting in opportunity of severe weather for much of the rest of the country for us in the bay area as well as the rest of the state conditions out there. going to be nice and calm with a high pressure ridge building in and dry skies for the bay. as we make our way through the week the weekend and next week, temperatures today will be in the 50's and 60's at the coast and pretty solid 60's elsewhere. a lot of these daytime highs, especially inland are cooler than average. so if you like that cooler feel today and tomorrow are more days to enjoy before the heat does eventually build back in oakland about the same

temperatures. ramon in the mid 60's, antioch only in the upper 60's. so definitely pretty cool across the board tomorrow, we'll see a few more low 70's inland. and by wednesday, we've got some 80's returning inland 70's along the bay shore and fairly warm as we work our way into next weekend. michael. >> thanks, john. good morning, everyone. the time is 6.16, this morning. taking a look at your roads. everything is running smoothly for the most part. taking a look at the south there right now. 1, 0, 1, 29 minute commute from san jose to menlo park. so no major delays there. if you're heading into the city this morning, dublin to fremont. 23 minutes there was an accident during the 5 o'clock hour. that has since been cleared. but we're just seeing some residual delays was in the pleasanton area. but once you pass a pleasanton, we'll be fine. it's smooth sailing from there. just like jon and arya over the weekend. taking a look at your roads and drive times 5.80, livermore to dublin. 11 minutes. san leandro to milpitas. 26 minutes milpitas to sunnyvale. a 6 minute commute. so not too

bad, antioch to concord. it's always congested in this area during this hour. 22 minute commute there. if you're in the area, you're heading down to use westbound 80 things are looking good for you. there's no accidents, no delays or anything from the crockett to the maze on westbound 80. it's a 23 minute commute. if you're turning off using the richmond, sandra fell bridge built an 8 minute commute over that into the north bay. that bay bridge, the sun is starting to come up and it is all stop and go traffic there at the toll plaza. 15 minute commute. once you get past that toll plaza from the maze to fremont street and the san mateo bridge this morning, 13 minute commute over that. so not too bad. and lastly, that golden gate bridge, it's an 18 minute commute into the city of san francisco. send it back to you to the thank you, michael. its 6.18, and sunday night mark, the beginning of yom hashoah or >> holocaust remembrance day. state senator scott wiener, you can see here joined community members last night at the san francisco jewish community center to marc, the

commemoration, which remember is the 6 million jews and a million others who were persecuted and killed murdered in the holocaust. governor newsom is celebrating jewish american heritage this month. he says california is this has the second largest jewish population in the nation. he wants to recognize the resilience of the jewish people and says administration will invest in security for houses of worship and other cultural centers to combat hate crimes. >> people rallied in lafayette sunday to bring attention to the 100 hostages still being held hostage by hamas. attendees say it's a recurring rally over highway. 24, they held up american and israeli flags as well the faces pictures of faces of those that are still being held captive say they want israel

and hamas to reach a deal to bring those hostages home. those rallying were on the bridge for 2 hours. >> was there is no more an why we now friday against my it's a as soon as possible. stop suggest >> well, there was also a group rallying in berkeley along interstate 80, as you can see here. meanwhile, san jose state students say they're planning a rally in support of the palestinian people and a cease-fire on campus this thursday. the rally is expected to start about 12:30pm, in the afternoon and will likely not be the first demonstration that we see on campus in the coming weeks as students are still occupying grounds at sonoma state. san francisco state cal and stanford.

>> and nationwide protests over the war in gaza have overwhelmed many college campuses and cancel graduation lawmakers on capitol hill divided about how to handle it. washington correspondent maddie beer-temple joining us live from dc this morning with more on that part of the story. maddy. >> good morning. full. both democrats and republicans say that violent protests are unacceptable, but they disagree over how president biden and some universities have responded. asian season under way. police are stepping in on some college campuses to clear encampments and break up clashes over the israel-hamas war. they should not have been allowed to fester on campus for 2 weeks. arkansas republican senator tom cotton told abc universities have been too slow to act. the liberal politicians refused to the police to clear them out the very first day the president addressed the protests at length for the first time last week he denounced violence but said he supported peaceful protest.

>> his campaign co-chair told cnn the president believes all students should feel safe. president's been very clear about this. he's also been very strong about the need to stamp out anti-semitism and islamophobia. but florida republican senator marco rubio told fox news the president's comments came to lead a 7 days into this crisis that we should heard from from the very beginning. while president biden said the protests have not affected his policy when it comes to the war in gaza, california, democrat congressman ro khanna told cbs he thinks the protests have made a difference. everyone from the president on down is aware that young people are upset at what's going on in the middle east tonight. i do think its head it awakening in washington that this war has to end. >> and so far more than 2000 people have been arrested across about 50 different college campuses. >> since mid-april in washington. i'm maddie beer-temple. >> all right, maddie, thank you very much. it's 6.22. and coming up on the kron 4 morning news, a program to

minute commute over that bridge. however, we do see lots of stop and go there at the toll. plazas the san mateo bridge, 14 minute commute on to the peninsula this morning. taking a look at the richmond, sandra fell bridge. it's a 12 minute commute to get into the north bay and that golden gate bridge. beautiful shot this morning. 19 minute commute into the city during james. we'll send it back to you. thanks. a lot is 6.31. and students around the bay area are continuing to protest on college campuses supporting the palestinians in this war with israel over the weekend, encampments were recovering from the rain while preparing for what comes next. we have. >> our own jack moment out there with the update. well, some of the protests have been lasting for days, others weeks, but they're continuing to press forward here in the bay area. >> with students wanting their schools to divest or be transparent about their financial ties with the nation of israel. but it may be quiet here in san jose state's campus. but pretty soon it may have its own protest as well. san jose's gearing up for

graduation, but online, there's chatter about a pro-palestine protest happening on may. saw people next to help building just like painting a big sign. robert cleveland is graduating soon and says he supports the ongoing protests, possibly reaching his i feel like it needs to be i wasn't. it's not happening with the government. >> at >> i mean, we're we're the ones that contain everything. coming up, head north to palo alto. this group of students a pro-palestine protest camp out on their campus. but i that everything's good posters soiled by the recent rain. but wooden pallets and tarps were able to keep students sleeping here. but friday evening, a counter-protester violated vigil of candles. students tell us they say police responded and took the counter protester away. kron 4 reached out to stanford pd but did not hear back and also give them some support for to know that other people also thinking about the moment live act lives in the area and donated supplies to stanford students.

she says her daughters are part of the student encampments around the country and wants things to go peacefully. really don't understand why we're fighting the students because all they're trying to ask for is for cease-fire back in san jose state. it's very like is very sad seeing it, especially when. >> the asked people. robert cleveland says he supports the cause of pro-palestine student protests have thought about. >> i have. but my mom said no, because you don't want and says he's looking forward to the possible protest this week. gen z and next group are going to be the future of the world, especially and we need to make a change now for not is not going to happen from the other san jose jack moment kron 4 news. >> in the east bay, oakland, police now offering a reward for anyone who has information about 2 homicides that took place about a year apart. they think they might be connected. so police say multiple suspects are connected now to the homicide of henry tejada and dish on roads. now tejada

was shot and killed in april of twenty-twenty right near foothill in church. a great 2020 nissan with license plates without license plates was seen pulling up to him before multiple people got out and shot him. he was 23 years old. that car was later recovered and determined to be a rental from reno. meanwhile, roads was also killed by gunshots in june of 2021. this was on lake shore and brooklyn right in front of lake merritt. there on the maps. you can see where this happened. if you have any information about either case, police call oakland police. >> its 6.34 and suspect in a friday night standoff on 80 in fairfield remains in critical condition after chp says he shot himself. this was originally the chp reported him as dying. they thought he died. but now they say that medical teams were able to revive him at the hospital. the standoff started after there was a multi county pursuit that started in sonoma county on friday afternoon.

and eventually there was a standoff with that person in fairfield inn is shut down. look at this 80 in both directions for hours that affected thousands of bay area drivers. the solano county da's office is now handling the case. >> do social media users have a right to control what they see or don't see in their feeds. a lawsuit filed against facebook's meta. >> says that. >> the company should allow people to unfollow all the content that it fed to them. >> by the facebook algorithms, this lawsuit asked the court to determine whether or not users newsfeeds fall into the category of objection alone material and says they should be able to filter out in order to enjoy the platform to their liking. the lawsuit comes after meta. >> since ceased and desist letters to app developers who were in the process of

creating third-party software to cleanse timelines. meta has declined comment. >> well, a story you'll see now only on kron. 4 health inspector shutdown donald's in oakland to investigate an alleged rat if you like a mcdonald's food, you may want to look away a warning. this video is disturbing. kron four's lezla gooden has the story. >> i was right in the parking lot of a mcdonald's located at 13, 30 jackson street in oakland when a health department employee started turning customers away, who were inside and in the middle of the drive-thru, i asked what was the cause of the store closure. this was her response from the health department. they have some sanitation the season. they need to clean up. >> what did you find you mind telling >> and this comes while 6 mcdonald's employees are actively on strike from this location due to what they say is an unhealthy working condition. now, take a look at

this video captured inside by a worker where you can see a live rat on the counter now that mcdonald's employees say they have found rat eating food prepared for customers. the workers have now filed a formal complaint to cal osha with the help from the california fast food workers union. >> when i saw that he i was his is disgusting. and so this is just 40 employees working on these conditions, but also for the coastal the communities i also spoke with the alameda county health department about these concerns. >> i was told the location did receive annual inspection back in february and no violations were found. and once we share some of these allegations made by the employees, the department said they would be sending an inspector by to investigate. and that's what we saw on friday. and i did reach out to mcdonald's earlier before the store closure and they sent us this statement from the owner and

operator joseph wong. it reads in part, it's important that employees have a safe place to come to work. when we became aware of the issue, we immediately contacted pest control and continue to work with them to address this. and we will continue to follow this story and we're hoping to learn more about what the next steps are for this mcdonald's location. in the newsroom going kron. 4 news. >> well, highway 9 will be closing in saratoga for 3 days. starting on wednesday. caltrans says crews are going to be working on the saratoga creek bridge. the roads going to be closed from 9 at night until 7 in the morning. each and every day. construction is expected to be completed. they say by this saturday. >> there is a new entertainment zone that's coming to san francisco. downtown. mayor breed is working to allow restaurants and bars to sell alcohol during outdoor events. >> and hang out with your friends and have a beer.

congested one would say taking a look at drive times livermore to dublin. 12 minutes and san leandro to milpitas. 31 minutes. we'll be just a sunnyvale. 8 minutes taking a look over the antioch area. if you're heading to conquer from antioch, it's a 31 minute commute right now. not too bad. those over in the area. if you're heading down to crockett, everything looks good on that commute. once you get to westbound 80 crockett to the maze. it's a 25 minute commute. you can see that congestion on 5.80, nothing too out of the ordinary for this morning, richmond, sandra fell bridge right now. it's a 13 minute commute. they are dealing with the disabled car on that bridge. so keep that in mind. if you're using that this morning and there is that gorgeous sunrise, when we take a live look at the bay bridge maze to fremont street, it is a 20 minute commute. you can see it's kind of stop and go stop and go there at the toll plazas. those metering lights are on at 6 o'clock hour. san mateo bridge, 16 minute commute over that last. see that golden gate bridge. it's
