continues over the next several days. live. look outside from sutro tower showing you we have clear conditions out there reporting sites across the region do give us clear skies. first thing this morning, but it is rather cold out there. you can see santa rosa, napa, danville. right now we're at 39 degrees. so we do start out on a cold note, but we will rebound nicely as we head into the afternoon. with temperatures pretty close to average for this time of the year. here's live doppler seven along with satellite. really quiet across california and just expect the week ahead to feature a lot of sunshine. and each afternoon we get warmer and warmer. so today you'll find a few clouds early on, giving way to a lot of sunshine close to average. that's we're calling this afternoon upper 50s along the coast, 60s around the bay. shoreline inland will go into the low 70s, so highs across the region 61 in the city, 64 in oakland, about 68 in san jose, 70 in fairfield, a high of 57 in half moon bay. but it gets even warmer over the next couple of days. reggie, we'll show you

those numbers coming up in about eight minutes. drew. >> thank you. new developments on a story we first brought you last week, a black san francisco man found a doll with a noose around its neck on his doorstep. and a similar incident has happened again. a man is at the live desk with the details of this latest incident. >> reggie terry williams first discovered the doll in a plastic bag at his alamo square home the morning of april 26th, with it a piece of paper with dozens of slurs and racist imagery so bad we can't show it on tv. san francisco police say they are investigating it as a possible hate crime, and then yesterday morning, williams woke up to another bag. this time it wasn't just a doll, but a toy grenade and threats. if he did not leave the neighborhood, they really targeting me now. >> like i need to really like. this is reaching another level. they had another picture of me and then they had it a detail at the at the bottom. what they going to do? like like we're we're coming for you. >> neighbors have come together

to raise money for williams. so he can install new security cameras and move his elderly parents into a temporary home. they are disappointed their calls to police last week didn't stop it from happening again. there asking community leaders to do more. >> we're just really hopeful that moving forward, they can be more transparent and let us know what's going on and what their, you know, the actions that they're taking to find who did this. >> it makes me wonder, like, are we really protected around here? >> williams has been in contact with the president of the san francisco chapter of the naacp, supervisor dean preston tells abc seven news he has known williams for years and is tracking the case closely with the police chief and police captain. he calls the incidents vile harassment and intimidation and adds it will not be tolerated. back desk, stephanie. amanda. >> thank you. and the south bay. now, police are looking for the person who stabbed two people less than an hour after cinco de mayo celebrations wrapped up in east san jose. police say a man is now in critical condition and

the second victim is a juvenile who's injuries are non-life threatening. it happened last night near emma prusch farm. residents call it disappointing. >> i'm not surprised. have you seen the area? i've worked here or i've lived here since maybe since like 2012, i reckon, and you know, i've been working here and it's been getting worse and worse. you know, i can understand that this is, you know, a damper, but, you know, shoot. i mean, just keep looking. moving forward, i guess authorities haven't said whether the violence had any connection to the cinco de mayo festivities. >> oakland police say a mass shooting at a juneteenth celebration near lake merritt in 2020 1st may be connected to another homicide that happened more than a year earlier. >> deshawn rhodes died in that june 2021 shooting on lakeshore avenue, five men and two women were also hurt. investigators now say the people responsible for that shooting are behind another killing. a year earlier, henry texador was shot and

killed in east oakland in april of 2020. police say the group used a nissan suv rented in nevada, nevada as the getaway vehicle. police are asking for your help to identify these suspects. so far this year, crime is down in nearly every neighborhood in san francisco. but according to an analysis by the chronicle, one neighborhood saw the opposite. in noe valley crime was up 15% from january to april compared to the same time last year. there were increases in burglaries and larceny theft, including car breaks, break ins, which made up for more than half of the reported crimes. >> we're checking in on a program abc seven has been following for years now. it helps children get home from school safely, and san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. the area is known for its open air drug markets, but it's also home to the highest concentration of children in the city. there's an estimated 3000 children who live in this area, largely from immigrant families. so-called safety stewards guide the students along the cleanest routes and avoid people using

drugs. >> we have a lot of things in this neighborhood that are not safe. we have a lot of drug dealing, we have a lot of drug use on the street that impact the lives of the people who live here. and so this is really an intervention of saying, you know, we need this space for kids, mothers fed up with drug dealers in this area created the safe passage program. >> it's been operating since 2008 and is now part of the tenderloin community benefit district secretary of state antony blinken is heading to the bay area today. >> he's coming to san francisco for a big cybersecurity conference at moscone center. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez joins us live. gloria thousands of people are expected, which could bring a big boost to businesses downtown in. >> that's right, reggie, more than 40,000 people are expected here in san francisco this week for the rsa cybersecurity conference. and this comes as the governor announces that california's tourism is at an all time high. and we have some

footage from yesterday when the governor announced that there is a record breaking data showing that tourists spent more money than they ever have in california last year. but businesses in san francisco's fisherman's wharf are skeptical. >> i mean, back in 2016, this place was mobbed on the weekends. i mean, there was a line going down the stairs. we don't see that at all. even on a saturday night. >> visit california says travel spending reached just over $150 billion across the state in 2023, but that number does not factor in inflation when adjusted for inflation. travel spending in 2023 was down 14% compared to before the pandemic in 2019, and visit california previously predicted that california will not fully recover from the pandemic until 2027. live in san francisco gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> gloria, thank you.

>> today, san francisco kicks off its small business week. the 20th annual celebration includes a bunch of events and workshops. it's a chance for local business owners and entrepreneurs to connect and learn from one another. there will be an opening party tonight at pier 70, plus a pop up shop with makers and artisans at the salesforce transit center on wednesday. >> time now. 507. we'll take you to san jose this morning with a live look outside. it is calm in the south bay a few clouds reported at the airport this morning, but the bigger story is that it is certainly chilly out there. we're in the mid 40s here, but other areas in our sheltered valleys, like parts of the east bay and the north bay, we have temperatures this morning starting out in the upper 30, so it is a cold start to the day. but those temperatures do recover pretty nicely as we head into the afternoon. here's a look at the big headline summer like days lie ahead. we have a really sunny week. a warming trend will hit us and will actually have the potential to have our first 90 degree days this year. in

some areas inland. that's how far above average we are going this week. let's break it down region by region. today, inland, we'll start out cool in the 40s and 50s. we'll get you into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees later on today around the bay shoreline. expect a lot of sunshine, temperatures in the low and mid 60s, and along the coast we'll have partly cloudy skies and afternoon highs in the mid 50s. we have some great news for allergy sufferers thanks to the rain we had on saturday. it has really helped to cleanse our atmosphere of some of our pollen so you can see trees, grass and mold are at low levels, so we're breathing a little easier today and that will continue for the next couple of days. here's a look at the next three days. we have a chilly morning here today, but a lot of sunshine this afternoon. and then we'll start to see those temperatures climb as we head towards wednesday. we'll have 70s and 80s away from the coast, but it gets even warmer here thursday and friday. reggie, we'll see you the complete seven day coming up in about nine minutes. >> thank you. drew class is back

. police arrested more than 200 people last week. ucla's chancellor says the school will change its security operations and create a new office of campus safety. the university is hiring former sacramento police chief rick brazile to lead that new team focused on security. also in l.a, usc is cleaning up protesters second attempt at an encampment on campus. the university called in the lapd saturday night to clear out the group, saying the encampment was breaking the law. no word of any protesters being arrested. usc's graduation events start later this week, minus the big commencement ceremony. the university called that off following backlash over its cancellation of the valedictorian speech. they cited safety issues over her pro-palestinian views, and we're also following the pro-palestinian encampment on uc berkeley's campus. >> it has reportedly expanded. this is video from last week, the chronicle reports. alumni have now joined protesters in sproul plaza. it's unclear,

though, how many people there are now, a university spokesperson told the chronicle the administration was aware of this new encampment extension here in the bay are encampments remain in place at san francisco state, uc berkeley , stanford, sonoma state and uc santa cruz for the most part, they have all remained peaceful. >> your voice, your vote. election day six months away now, and a new poll shows it is a tight race between president biden and former president donald trump. over the weekend, trump made headlines again this time for comparing the justice department to the gestapo during a republican retreat. here's abc news reporter nguyen this morning. >> the presidential race tightening now less than six months away from the november election, former president trump this weekend at a multi-day republican retreat reportedly mocking some state and federal prosecutors handling his criminal cases. in an audio recording obtained by the washington post, trump also allegedly compared himself to al capone, an infamous mobster, and

biden's administration, to secret police. the white house quick to slam those reported remarks, saying in a statement. instead of echoing the appalling rhetoric of fascists lunching with neo and fanning debunked conspiracy theories that have caused brave police officers their lives, president biden is bringing the american people together around our shared democratic values. also at the retreat, major donor and top republicans, including a slew of trump's closest allies whose names have been floated as vp hopefuls. former presidential candidate senator tim scott telling nbc news we had no conversations about the vp pick to be honest with you. to be clear, this comes as a new abc news ipsos poll projects uncertainty in the race ahead. trump with a slight edge at 46% over president biden at 44. >> but if you hone in just on registered voters or likely voters, you actually get the opposite result and a few point

edge for joe biden and for personal favorability. >> biden, seen as more honest and trustworthy, leading trump 40 to 33. yet both candidates seen as more unfavorable than not. among top issues for voters. abortion access president biden, with a 12 point lead over trump on the issue, the ex-president continuing to avoid specific positions, instead deferring to the states on the issue. and when abc news washington a big hearing is set for today that would give local governments more say over autonomous vehicles, amanda has the details of today's hearing. >> now. stephanie, south bay state senator dave cortese is behind the bill that would give cities and counties say over how self-driving cars operate in their communities. waymo will start testing its robo taxis in seven more bay area cities in the coming weeks, all on the peninsula. in march, the state puc cleared the way for waymo to expand its operating area to include parts of san mateo and

santa clara counties. the pilot program will only be available to waymo employees at first. they will be able to order rider only trips anywhere from san francisco to san mateo and burlingame. senator cortez says this about the bill on the robo taxis in march that we need to create a system right away. >> you know, to do just modest regulations, modest controls, ordinary, normal traffic controls to make things safe for our community. that's only going to happen if we get our local cities involved. and waymo's product manager says the company is in regular communication with local governments and law enforcement officials. >> he also says he is optimistic the way that waymo will have good performance. back to you, reggie. thanks, amanda. >> kgo is celebrating 75 years on the air here in the bay area. channel seven went live on air for the first time from sutro mansion on may 5th, 1949. in the 1970s, a new show called news scene changed tv news to what it

bridge toll plaza looking great. when you see the skies are clear out there right now, we are in store for warm weather over the next several days. it peaks here. thursday and into friday. in the afternoon. right now we have some cold temperatures. 39 right now in danville. we're sitting at 44 in palo alto, 41 that current temperature and half moon bay. we have some areas like santa rosa, napa this morning that you certainly need the heavy winter jacket because we're starting out in the upper 30s. but we will warm nicely as we head into the afternoon. looking at your weather wellness today, air quality is good. finally, our pollen levels are low thanks to that rain we had over the weekend. it helped to bring about cleaner air, grasses, oak and cedar are what we're looking at when it comes to pollen levels and the uv index is a seven that is high. today we will have sunny skies, temperatures close, if not a few degrees below average. today most of us will land in the 60s and today is the coolest day, relatively speaking. we had this week from here on out, we'll find those temperatures warming each and every afternoon. any evening plans you have looking

nice out there. we'll have a mix of sun and clouds throughout the early evening hours. temperatures on the cooler side in the 60s, dipping into the 50s by about 8 p.m. overnight. tonight we'll keep mainly clear skies and overnight lows. not as cold as we are right now. we'll stay more in the upper 40s to the lower 50s as we head into tuesday. that warming trend really accelerates here by the middle part of the week. here's future tracker temperatures wednesday afternoon. it's feeling quite warm already in the 70s and low 80s for most areas away from the coast, but we'll increase those numbers even more thursday and friday are the warmest days this week. mid 70s in the city, mid 80s in the south bay and our warmest spots inland. but watch what happens on friday. we'll likely see some 90s start to pop up, and our warmest cities inland area wide. we're looking at a lot of spots getting into the 80s by the end of the week. here's the accuweather seven day forecast showing you it's a chilly morning this morning with sunny skies this afternoon, and then we warm up thursday and friday. it's almost like summer

boeing will launch the spacecraft with people on board. if all goes as planned, the crew will head to the international space station for a week. this flight was originally supposed to happen back in 2020, but it was delayed due to software and engineering issues. the nasa astronauts who will be on this mission are confident it is ready. >> the crew uh- interaction with starliner to see how well does she work with people inside. >> we don't expect to have significant failure modes. >> we don't expect things to go wrong. but we know that we are going to be fine. >> this is the final flight before the starliner can be approved for routine trips to orbit. the mission will launch from the same launch pad at cape canaveral, where john glenn's historic mission started six decades ago. >> on sunday. people across the country will be honoring their moms. it's mother's day. abc news reporter emma wynne has the top trends for this year, and some shopping tips for mother's

body inside the gunman's home on the same day this incident happened. a motive for this attack is still unclear at this point. and the pastor says he will be back in church next week for another sunday service. >> we continue to follow the effort to improve living conditions from for farm workers on the peninsula. it's been a year and a half since the mass shooting in half moon bay highlighted the need for safe and affordable places for workers to live. now, the chronicle is reporting that at least one project meant to improve living conditions is stalled. according to the report, the planning commission has held public meetings for a proposed five story, 40 unit complex on kelly avenue, both times, public comment was positive. however, the commissioners chose to delay a vote. commissioners criticized the building for being too tall. they also worried about the potential traffic and said it's out of character. with downtown half moon bay, a local nonprofit, is trying to build a better bay area by cultivating the next generation of inventors. >> now it needs help. after a
