3:10 pm
>> well, bret, i think it's worth remembering that when hamas carried out those hideous atrocities on october 7th, a cease-fire was supposedly in effect. so, one can imagine that, to the israelis, any cease-fire that hamas has agreed to may not be worth much. but, israel, i think, is in a position where it must, at least, pretend go along with cease-fire talks because it's facing two not always compatible objectives. one is to defeat hamas militarily and eliminate the continuing threat of hamas' military wing, which is about all there is to hamas now, i think. and the other is to try to get the benefit of the israeli families worrying understandably, terribly about where the hostages are, which families -- which hostages may still be alive, if any at this point. we know very little about that. so, they have to at least be going through the motions of talking about any deal that

apparent possession of these hostages. and in the situation that israel face, they don't know how many hostages are left alive. they don't know where they are exactly. they suspect a lot of them are in rafah but they don't know. it's a terribly hard situation for israel to confront think back, bret, the biden administration has been discouraging the final piece of this military puzzle here for israel for some time it's even possible one can imagine that these campus protests would not have reached the critical mass they seemed to have reached if the fighting had been over and done with. there were going to be civilian casualties to be sure and perhaps some hostage casualties such as the realities of war. war as the saying goes is indeed hell. >> bret: brits as always thank you. >> brit: you bet. >> bret: russia plans to hold deals simulating the use of
