[laughter] pete: wow. well, good morning to you both. rachel: good morning to all of you. pete: we start with a fox news alert. as anti-israel rallies continue to plague college cam i puss across the country, that includes protesters at the university of southern california refusing to leave their encampments overnight. rachel: the demonstrate theres now disrupting commencement ceremonieses including this one yesterday at the university of

michigan. will: madeleine rivera joins us with the latest. >> reporter: hey, good morning, guys. about two the hours from here at the university of virginia in charlottesville, state and local police cleared the area saturday after the university's president, jim ryan, said they refused to follow policies. here's the standoff with law enforcement. [inaudible conversations] >> reporter: the protests, which began on tuesday, were peaceful until friday when ryan says the tone changed. he says university police tried to e solve the situation, but protesters got physical and tried to assault them. 25 people were arrested. in michigan pro-palestinian protesters interrupted the university of michigan's commencement. the group marched across the center aisle holding palestinian flags and signs. they were met with boos. listen here. [bleep] >> reporter: and in chicago 68 people were arrested on the grounds of the art institute. they were charged with criminal trespass to property. police say they refused to comply with requests to leave and move to an alternate site. some pro-palestinian protesters launched whole demonstrations outside the democratic national convention this summer x they're9 putting pressure on the city of chicago saying their first amendment rights are being violated. the coalition of groups say the city working with the democratic national committee is exercising its authority to deny these organizations respective applications for parade permits within sight or sound of the convention. all of this stoking fears among democrats that the protests could disrupt the annual convention highlighting a political liability for president biden. will, rachel and pete. will: thank you, madeleine. rachel: thank you, madeleine. pete: yeah. they're trying to avoid 1968, so

the permits they're allowing at this point are 4 miles away in a free-lined treat -- tree-lined street from where the convention will happen. we didn't note it in the report, but with things really escalated especially at the art institute of chicago where students shoved a security officer, grabbed his keys, broke into an adjacent museum, blocked the emergency exits and and barricaded the gates,9 and the school says because safety is our priority, they then proceeded to negotiate multiple times with with these guys over -- don't worry, you'll get amnesty from academic sanctions or dress passion, just come outside. -- trespassing. took them five hours to call in the if cops after the security guard was accosted. rachel: yeah. you guys know i'm a free speech absolutist unless it involves violation, and yet i saw that, i i saw that visual that we had of the university of michigan graduation ceremony, ask and my

blood boiled as a parent. first of all, those are, as you mentioned, pete, those are miserable events to attend in that they're huge, but we go to them. i went to the university of chicago because if it's a family moment, and it's about the graduate, but really it's the about the parents, we did this -- [laughter] pete: i paid for. this. rachel: i paid for this, i built this. and then to have these people just parade through with their flags, totally steal this event from thousands of families, thousands of parents, thousands of graduates, it is the ultimate form of selfishness. they're bullies. they're bulliesful. will: well, a university of michigan student will join us at 7 a.m. eastern time to talk to us about that graduation. you know, we talked about the democratic national committee we9 and the democratic national convention and the reflections, how it reminds if us of 1968. pete and i have going to go off the a wall a later to talk about

the similarities, and and there will be some -- pete: actually really interesting when you dig into history. will a headline in the "wall street journal" from if this week shows exactly how this probably will come together based upon the way it came together on college campuses. headline says activist groups train students for months before campus protests. this was planned, it was not spontaneous. these kids were not organized and funded, but they were trained for what you're seeing. we'll see what's trained on the democratic -- rachel: i got a flier sent to me two months ago from a guy who lives in chicago. it was a flier already recruiting for training for this convention. i actually sent it over to some producers, i sent it over to jesse watters' team as well because they are planning and and plotting for that. the democrats know that and, by the way, they're a very old cohort in congress. of they remember those '68 riot-

[laughter] rachel: totally. they are boom ors who know exactly what happened there and what happened to the democrat party and candidates after. and so that's what they're worried about. pete: they're going to have to try to avoid that university of michigan scene on their own floor, because they'll have sleeper delegates that will try to do this kind of stuff. will: you both mentioned you'd be upset as a parent to have graduation go that way, that's exactly what saturday night live launched on to when they spoofedded columbia students and parents. >> i think it's just great, you know? it's wonderful. nothing makes me prouder than young people using their voices to fight for what they believe in. >> alfonse, your daughter must feel so supported when she's out there. >> what's that now? abegan. it hasn't gone for republican in 40 years. rachel: yeah. pete: can and there's a huge machine in minneapolis/st. paul that'll bag votes for democrats as they have for a long time. maybe, maybe. you want the other side playing defense if on territory they didn't think they add to defend. if that were to happen, we're in for a huge wave election. they sound confident, we'll see. rachel: well, he has to win wisconsin, either wisconsin or pennsylvania -- pete: or arizona. rachel: or arizona. of there's a number of states that if he wins, it's over for joe biden. and i don't believe those two -- maybe virginia was on that list. i can't remember -- pete: minnesota definitely was not. rah. rachel: minnesota if was not. i tried to get the democrat numbers. they said they hadn't been released yet. will: in defense of ronald reagan, he was running against minnesota hometown guy, walter mondale. pete: and he only spent half an

hour at the airport for one campaign stop, so if he'd actually tried -- will: congressman if byron donalds will be live at 7:. 45 a.m. eastern time this morning. want to turn to your headlines. multiple new york area synagogues are being forced to evacuate on saturday after police say they received a handful of bomb threats that later turned out to be fake if. three new york city synagogues as well as a brooklyn museum each receiving the threat, no word if they're connected or if there have been any arrests as officers say they are still the investigating. if. iowa not backing town to the biden administration over a new state law that that a sill tates arresting and deporting illegal immigrants. the white house threatening to sue the state if the bill is not suspended by tuesday. governor kim reynolds posting on, and, quote, the only reason we had to pass this law is because the biden administration refuses to enforce the laws on the books.

woman are detained on suspicion of kidnapping. investigators found a fourth body nearby reportedly id'd as the property owner who went missing a few weeks ago. nicole parker joins us now. nicole, we don't know exactly what happened. there's some suspicion it was a carjacking, and the bodies have not been positively identified just yet, but it is shocking. even though we know it's dangerous in mexico, there is still some presumption of ability to travel. >> well, first of all, i'd like to touch on the original points you made about the status of the investigation. you know, there are a lot of things that are being unraveled and discovered as we speak, and that's very important to these family members who have lost their loved one. when a crime occurs in a foreign country, you know, the united states is not the lead investigator on it, and and so we're relying on those in mexico to carry out this investigation. but the fbi and the state department and australian authorities are certainly

involved. although the bodies have not been positively identified based on forensics, based on description it's pretty much, you know, they're pretty sure that a these are the victims of this potential crime. very, very sad. you always think, you know, it's not going to happen to me. the state department issues very strong warning, and i, you know, i've worked very closely down in mexico city, and americans and other foreigners, you know, t not really going to happen to me. these were or three grown males. one of them was, i believe with, 6-4. you don't think nip's going to mess with you -- anyone's going to mess with you, but these individuals are violent. when i was in the fbi academy way back when, in 2010, we were specifically told if you travel to mexico against a warning, you are traveling at your own risk. so i cannot stress enough how important it is to heed the state department's travel warning. will: yeah it's a great point about the travel warning. to be honest, i've ignored that

travel warning. i've taken a surf trip to mexico with my brothers. i didn't go to baja. and the presumption kind of at least in our mind, well, that's where cabo san lucas is, i'm not going to interact with the cartels. you understand the cartel violence exists, but you think it exists within the cartels, ask and you hope you're never some type of mistaken identity. this seems like, whoa -- again, we don't know what these guys were doing beyond going on a surf trip, but it would have checked the boxes, although there's a travel advisory, i'm not putting myself in a a position of danger. >> correct. and i'm a very dig proponent -- do not live in fear. we cannot let people terrorize us, but there is that fine balance. do not live in fear or but also be responsible and heed the warnings. i am not blaming these victims, you know in they have the right to do what they would like to do and go on a wonderful surf trip. they posted amazing posts on

social media. they were having a fabulous time. live your best life, i'm a huge proponent of that. what i do advise is if you are traveling in a foreign country, the state department does have a program. it's called step, the smart traveler enrollment program. you can go on to their web site and put in your information, and that will immediately link you to local embassies and consulates in case there is an emergency, that authorities and and u.s. authorities are aware and can help as quickly as possible. will: and, nicole, one last thing on this. how common, i mean, this story, first of all, deserves anticipation on its own merits. this is -- attention on its own merits. this is incredibly sad and scary. i know, i am from texas. people travel to mexico to cabo, pert if vallarta -- puerto vallarta or cancun. how common is it for americans to be dealing or non-mexican nationals to be doling with danger when they travel in mexico? >> sadly, i believe it's quite

common. i also am from texas, will, and i used to cross the border all the time, hey, let's go get some food. i used to visit friends in california, and we'd cross the border for lunch. unfortunately, we are not in a state where that is a good idea, it is not smart. these cartels and other organized crime groups, they are brutal. they do not care. whether this was a carjacking, they were trying to rob them, whatever the end result might be of the investigation, you have a target on your back, and you have to live safely. and protect yourself in the best manner possible, but do not trust for a moment, oh, this just happens to everybody else. you've got to be aware and be safe. will: i just heard a story recently of an american businessman who was take on a private if plan out of the fbi, taken, hood thrown over his face, kept for a week for ransom. literally, i don't know how you would make yourself exempt from what's happening in mexico if you travel to mexico. nicole, thanks for being with us this morning. >> thank you. will: all right.

rachel: all right. we're back with a fox weather alert. devastating floods hitting east texas yesterday reaching levels not seen since hurricane harvey. some parts of the state seeing up to 10 inches of rainfall. sorry about that. in houston an officer's body cam footage shows a man and his e two dogs being rescued from the warts. let's turn now to chief meteorologist rick reichmuth for our forecast. rick: remember hurricane harvey? it was that hurricane that hit and then stayed in the area for days and dumped up to about 60

inches of rain. that caused that flooding of. this has been day after day of rounds of rain, and we have it again today. it will begin to dry out tomorrow, so just we've got to get through one more day here. this is where our flood threats are, and overnight dallas area got a lot of rain along i-a 35, flash flooding going request on there and throughout the day today, a level three out of four threat again around the houston area. be watching for this potential for flash flooding here. this is the radar as it looks right now, but it's all part of kind of a broader system. while the rain will die can down a little bit by the time we get towards tomorrow, we are going to be watching the severe threat pick up again. we have had so many tornadoes the last few weeks and look at those tomorrow and very busy day especially across parts of kansas and oklahoma. tuesday, wednesday, slides a little farther off towards the east, but i think tomorrow is that big day where we're potentially going to see some to tornadoes. this is all part of the system bringing some significant snow if across the west.

still talking about that in california. elector rachel, back over to you. rachel: thank you, rick. for the first time in 20 years, congresswoman kathy mcmorris rogers is not running for washington's 5th congressional district joining the growing list of republican lawmakers leaving congress. the filing deadline isn't until friday x there's already 12 candidates who have thrown their hats in the representation. michael baumgartner is one of them, and he joins us now. miking thanks for joining us this morning. off lot of people running. what are you doing the stand out in the pack? >> well, i think the first thing to say is the fact that so many people running is a good sign. you know, a lot of people think the with so many members of congress leaving that the republican party is in trouble, and i think the fact that we have so many americans willing to step forward, i think, is a great sign. i really differentiate myself from the pack with a track record of beating democrats. when i got into the state senate both before or or and after, a track record of creating

balanced budgets without tax increases and, of course or or my previous experience doing counterinsurgency in iraq and afghanistan is different as well. and we've seen that difference manifest itself in fund raising sport, popular support. i raised more than twice as much money as all the other candidates combined. takes more than just money to win an election, but it certainly helps. it's it's a demonstration of confidence in me. rachel: you're out on the campaign trail talking to people in your district specifically. what's the top issue that you're hearing about? >> people are absolutely concerned and outrage ared by the situation at the southern border. that has to be priority number one. if we don't solve the southern border, we won't have a country. all these law breakerrers accusing the refugee e system, we certainly have compassion for true refugees, but all these people abusing the system and all the drugs and fentanyl coming across the southern border, it has to be solved.

rachel: yeah. your wife is an immigrant. >> that's right. my wife is from britain with. we met in afghanistan. anybody that doesn't believe in god should learn the story about the baumgartners. we now have five beautiful children. we're living the american dream, but we're very concerned our children won't inherent meter -- can inherit that chance at the american dream. we want a strong the america. rachel: you know, when i think about the top issue that no one's talking about nearly enough, it's the debt. what are your answers to the debt? if because i think it's going to triple -- cripple this country. it already is. >> well, it is a concern. it is not fair to leave $35 trillion and counting to the next generation. when i was in the state senate, e was the vice chair of ways and means and even in a a left-wing state like washington, we took the majority as republicans, and we created balanced budgets that didn't require tax increases. so it kind of requires prioritization. when i was in the legislature,

we cut five unnecessary government agencies and saved money on unneeded bureaucrats, and that's the same sort of thing we need to do at the federal level. rachel: and what about the balance of power? if i mean, that's something that you've been talking a lot about, that you think congress has given too much to the executive branch. how do you think you can solve that problem in i mean, even if you're elected, you know, you have hundreds of other members on your team who haven't done anything about it so far. >> well, congress needs to do its job. the founding fathers came forward today, they would hook at the growth of the federal government and be outraged, and they'd be so confused that congress gave away so much of its own power. congress should be the strongest of the three, branches of government, not the weakest. we we need to stop giving so much authority to the executive branch and, by extension, the judiciary. congress makes laws. stop all these continuing spending resolutions and stop passing bills that give executive authority to the executive branch. so that's a start. congress just does its job, we'll be a lot better off as a

it wasn't how we looked at soldiers or airmen. now they've made it an obsession with dei. why is that? >> pete, i think you nailed it a couple weeks ago when you announced your new book, "the war on warriors. " it's being pushed upon the military by some political idealogues. and, unfortunately, it is unadulterated, undeniable, easily proven marxist-based ideology that's being forced down the throats of our servicemen. our own dod is not only that facilitating it, they've built an empire to track it and to make sure that, you know, the provisions of what they're ordering are being carried out. pete: president general, why are other generals going along with this? you're standing up, ore generals, other colonels are standing up. why are people in power who know better than this housing this dangerous ideology to -- allowing this dangerous ideology to infiltrate the ranksesome.

pete: joining us now, that angler, art weston. art, prehistoric 200-pound alligator snap thing turtle? did you know -- snapping turtle? in did you know they existed? how did you reel it in? >> we weren't trying to catch it. it was a surprise. [laughter] we were trying to get annal a gater gay -- an alligator gar fish, and it took the bait. it didn't fight normally. usually, a gar will swim out and away from the boat. this one kind of stayed under the boat. so my professional guide, captain kirk kirkland, he thinks that was of a turtle. so we did get it close to the boat and, sure enough, it was a massive turtle. i've never seen a turtle that big. he was able to get it into the boat by grabbing its tail. and then right behind its head on the shell and winch it up over the side of the boat. we needed to get it in to get the hook out.

it was actually stuck in his pa- will: you caught him by the paw? >> yeah. will: i was going to ask, i was telling pete rachel, i took a picture of a snapping turtle this week, and we were -- they're terrifying. i was asking how you got the hook out. i don't know how long the neck is, but you've got if to watch some fingers. maybe a hand with that guy. >> you see how it's the head is pointed up? every time i would look left or right, his head would slowly turn -- pete: oh, no. >> he wanted to get me, that's for sure. [laughter] rachel: it doesn't look real. it looks like something out of some, like, movie. is what is the bait that this animal gnawed on -- gnawed on? >> yeah, we were using pieces of fish from a fish called a carp to use the catch the alligator gar. he just happened to be around it and got hooked in the claw.

will: pete grew up afraid of snapping turtles, i grew up afraid of an alligator gay -- gar getting you in the leg. >> last september i caught the largest recorded at 283 pounds. this one was impressive because we caught it only on a 4-pound line, is so that was a world record on 4-pound if test at 188 pounds. will: nice. ray you have the record for catching the tugliest animals -- [laughter] will: we gotta go, but what lake were you doing this in? >> same ray burn lake -- sam rayburn lake. pete: remind me to never get in that lake.
